??? Your Nightforce SHV knowledge

Does ant one have any first hand experience with a Nightforce SHV scope?

I'm thinking about the 5-20x56 w/MOAR Ill reticle

I had an NXS 5.5x22 but like a dummy, I sold it.

I'm looking at using it for general hunting, F-class, maybe a mid-range prone match all on the same rifle. New .260 build

I could buy my buddys SIII 10x50x60 but it's not the reticle I want.

Any of you have one or even handled one??

Thanks for any input in advance.
Brian

I handled an SHV a few weeks back and I was disappointed. It just didn't feel like typical Nightforce quality to me. To me, the savings are not enough vs their NXS line.

OP, I've had the opportunity to fondle, shoot the SHV line of scopes but I'm not that great of a reviewer, but heres a few good links.

But in all honesty for about $300 more you can get a 5.5-22 NXS with the MOAR, and then theres the used market

I own 4 Nightforce NXS scopes and just bought a new SHV 5-20x56 with the illuminated MOAR reticle. I like it a lot! The glass is just as clear as all my NXS and it tracks true just like all Nightforce optics. The adjustment turrets are covered with screw on caps. They dont have the same feeling when adjusting them as the NXS scopes, but they still feel well built and true. The 5-20 has a zero stop. Its not the same as the NXS. You basically zero your scope in at whatever range you want then loosen the set screws and push the turret all the way down then tighten them back up. The illuminated reticle has 8 different brightness I think? It easily adjust on the side parallax. I really like mine. I have mine mounted on my Rock River AR15 in a Nightforce Unimount. I would highly recommend one. Again the glass is very good!

What didn't feel right?

Weight, clicks feeling less than positive, clarity???

I'd hate to buy one and not be happy.

Personally, I think they are a little pricey for what they are. IMO, they're other scopes just as good or better for less than a grand. When your spending $1300 for a scope, why not just spend a little more and get the NXS 5.5x22x50 which is a lot better scope to me. I can't speak much for clarity…it looked fine for the few minutes I looked thru it, but the clicks felt really crappy. Don't take my opinion too serious though, talk to someone who actually has one and has spent time shooting with it and can give you a thorough review.
