My current scope weighs right at 30 ozs and I have it on the Leupold quick disconnect rings. I really like these rings and usually remove the scope when I'm giving the rifle a good cleaning. I have found no discerning loss of POI.
In a month or so I'm going to purchase the Nightforce SHV 5-20x56. This NF also weighs in right at 30 ozs. Both scopes have the 56mm objective lens so the height of the rings is not an issue.
I've had two prior rifles with NF scopes that were big boomers and I had the heavier NF rings on both of them. They actually came with the scope. This new rifle is a 20 Vartarg on a Remington 700 with a varmint style Pac-Nor barrel, so recoil is not a concern at all. The scope is sitting on a one piece 0 MOA rail.
After writing this, I still think the Leupold QD rings will work without issue.
A lot of rifles I've seen also have the much larger and heavier rings, NF, Warn etc. Is there a reason folks are using the heavier rings?
