The words "build" vs. "assemble" aren't the real problem/issue...it's really the age old concept which all prejudice is formed on, us versus them. If we have an "us" and a "them" then we have someone to look down upon and that makes "us" feel better. All the words build and assemble allow "us" to do is keep "them" from joining the party. I don't know why anyone would want to do that, but okay. It's no different than gold "contributors" believing they are the only ones that "contribute" to this forum and the rest of us {in this case them, of which I am one} should be kicked out.

On a serious note, very well said. What I got from your message is Just be happy there are people out there who enjoy the same stuff you do! That’s what it’s all about. There shouldn’t be an us and them.

I agree, as this is indeed an "age old concept" that roots itself to the very beginning . . . or even before mankind. Tribalism is alive and well . . . and flourishing in America today.

In the case of this thread where it seems this an effort to distinguish between "us" vs "them", it also seems to be heavily influenced by ego. That's where the "makes "us" feel better" comes in. huh???

I bought a basic 223 adl, stripped it down for a CBI barrel, RB trigger, and a boyds stock. You will find me at the range, smiling ear to ear, with the rifle I BUILT.


Switching barrels yourself is great fun. I would like to get a lathe and start with a 1.25" blank, hopefully soon.

Exactly which was my point and why I used religion, politics and social economic classes it is about being divisive and separating people based on some random thing that ultimately does not matter or amount to much of anything. Divide and conquer is the mind set of loser's and hate mongers for the most part. It is often a tool used by the elite to turn one group upon another to cement their power with out the masses having much of a clue that they are being manipulated and controlled.

I built this! I did not build the lathe or make the sheet brass I used to build it. I did build my drawing table that I use to draw tubes. I did not make the valve assembly just everything else!I could make the valve assembly but I could not build one as good as I can just buy. The cost to make one as good as I can buy from another large OEM would not be a smart way to spend my money in terms of tooling cost and opportunity cost. For the record I use the same valve assembly as the very finest custom built trumpet makers use.

I made this from parts I purchased from Mouser, Digi-Key and off Ebay. None of this is my intellectual design and I did not make any of the parts.

A long time ago, this guy (genius) I know acid etched his boards, they looked horrible but provided certain results. Composing music for the trumpet would complete the build.

As for rifles, I tinker around with the fruits of our massive American industrial might to make modest modifications using minor metal and wood working tools.

I did that in high school and in college. Today you can get top notch products made in China to the highest standards at a great price point. Turn around is fast as well. Not that I do that but many do. The difference in price point is so large that you would have to be loaded not to do it that way. It is like buying blue jeans for $9 at a discount store vs paying $149 for the cheapest pair of USA made union made Blue Jeans. The difference is greater than that. I buy the finest quality trumpet leadpipes made from the best materials in Taiwan to the best finish and precision for $2.49. If you want to buy something that high quality and precise in the USA it will cost $195. Why? Because that is what people are willing to pay at the consumer level. The plant in Taiwan charges consumers the same price they charge other companies not a wholesale vs retail pricing and they sell to anyone.

I am real old and at that time "top notch products made in China" were not available - this necessitated etching and burning - truly a "build". I buy American when ever possible and have hopes for USMCA as far as buying those pants. Hayden's trumpet concerto in E is blissful.
