"You can no longer buy guns at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Maine"

They quit selling guns in Utah several years ago. They don't even sell fishing equipment anymore here. Basically a clothing store.

Actually you can't blame Dick. I spent a lot of hours in his nondescript block building just outside of Binghamton in the late 60's and early 70's. Like any good gunshop there was a crowd of regulars that hung around there where they shared questionable opinions about everything. Dick had a nice selection of guns, reloading supplies and equipment and every fishing gadget you could imagine. If you wanted something he didn't have he'd get it and it was all at a fair price.

It was that way when I left but when his son, Ed, took over it became a purely for profit operation. He had a lot of marketing smarts and managed to figure out if he focused on kid and wife stuff they'd come in, fill a cart then feel sorry for Dad and let him buy a gun at a very high price. It's the same sales model that Bass Pro and Cabela used. So it's not Dick Stack's fault, blame his kid Ed.

The original statement "We will not sell guns anymore we are going to destroy the ones we have, not return to the distributor." Was followed very shortly by "I am going to do some research into a presidential run."

This is why we are paying triple for powder and primers now. We are dealing with corporate CEOs that are not shooters.

Story in today’s Bangor Daily News. Is this occuring in other geographic locations? At first, I was agitated, but it just works to help the local small FFL shop, so good-bye and good riddance to Dick's!
Dick’s sporting goods lost me as a customer 10 years ago. They are rude and one time I was I a pinch for some shotgun ammo for bird hunting and I went I there to ask where the ammo was and both of the employees treated me like I was a freaking school shooter and proceeded to tell me they didn’t because they don’t believe in supporting the shooting customers. I was shocked by their answer and I thanked them for being so honest with me, and told them I would never set foot inside another Dick’s in my life, and I haven’t. Several Christmases ago I received a $40 gift certificate, I proceeded to sell it to my neighbor for $30, he thought I was scamming him until I told him the story. Screw DICKS.

Well then Dick made a bad choice. FB_IMG_1709951140042.jpg

Dick's stopped selling firearms here in PA several years ago, and at that point I resolved never to set foot in one again. I guess there were a lot of others like me around here, as the nearest one to us, in York, PA, closed down due to lack of business a few months later. Glad they're gone.

It’s been quite a while in Michigan as well, definitely 10+ years.

I bought a savage mod 11 VT in 308 from dicks probably 13-14 years ago, It shoots very well for a factory rifle and was a hell of a deal on sale. One of my absolute favorite rifles. Shortly after they started donating money to anti gun groups and the one near me closed. Business is tough when you are stupid.

I may be wrong, but didn't did they stop selling guns or just Ar's after the Parkland shooting? Those Dicks lost my business immediately after that. Also, don't forget that Academy still sells "black rifles"yet they do not display them for sale. Both companies can burn a far as I am concerned.
