Yep, I'm old and cranky.

I've got 2. The first was a mini 14 that I bought when I was like 16 or 17. It was the most inaccurate rifle I've ever owned, so it had to go. Replaced it with a Ruger Target 223 which was super accurate.

The next was a Savage in a 270 WSM when they first came out. Not only did I spend hundreds of dollars on powders and bullets trying to get it to shoot, but it also wouldn't feed and cycle worth a crap either. Total JUNK rifle all the way around. Swore I'd never own another Savage rifle, and I haven't in 20+ years. The funny part is, my dad had bought the same rifle in a 270 WSM also, and it had the same accuracy and feeding issues.

300 win mag AR-8? Junk chamber job, barrel shoots great but it doesn't cycle properly or at all at times. Polished chamber thinking that would cure it, nope. Adj block, nope. Was told you can't shoot with a can??? WTF?

The only firearm I regret buying was a Remington 597 .22LR. 16" heavy barrel. I picked it up cheap, put an old Weaver K-4 on it and thought it was just the ticket for a truck gun. Name a problem and this rifle had it. Feeding, extraction, ejection, accuracy, etc. Worst factory magazines in the history of firearms - I could crush them in my hand.

Like I said, I picked it up cheap. I got my money's worth, I guess. I still have the old Weaver.

Brand new 70's era Llama double-action .22. Spit lead all over the place and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Finally realized that the cylinder wasn't indexing with the forcing cone properly. Dealer was good enough to take it back and refund my money.

Old & cranky has nothing to do with it. Most of this stuff was when I was younger & dumber. It's fun to remember them, but good riddance to all.

There was a Voere of some sort in 300 Win Mag. Big exaggerated Weatherby-esque rollover that was possibly the most punishing rifle I ever shot.

Also had a custom shop 700 in 375 H&H with a 22" very thin barrel that was impossible to control at the bench. It torqued a lot to the left leaving 1/2 moon over my left eye (I'm righty). Tried to tame it by wrapping sling around front rest with a bag of shot on the rest. It broke the front sling swivel & drew blood again. It was a nice rifle, but meant to be shot from one's hind legs only. Maybe sitting.

I had a Krico 22 Hornet that refused to shoot anything well.

My Contender phase was expensive, A couple of frames, a bunch of barrels... each with a scope, even a carbine set up. They all sucked pretty much except for the 44 mag with a screw-in choke for their snake shot. It was a long time ago, but thinking I maybe traded the whole deal (less scopes) for that Voere 300.

I vaguely remember a mid 80s 700 ADL in 308 that just wasn't fun to shoot from any position. The stock had the reverse angle on the contrasting fore end. Nobody else liked it much either.

A guy at the hunting club had some sort of single shot bolt action 10ga. "Here try this", he said with a grin. One shot was enough.

The latest was a Ruger predator in 6.5 CM... really wanted a 260, but couldn't find one. It showed promise, but always threw 1 random shot out of the group. It was just too unappealing, plastic, & ugly to spend much effort on.

After several months working at hardware store after school finally had enough for my dream rifle. Went to local gun shop that was closing and had a sale going on. Bought a beautiful Remington 700 BDL in 7mm mag and a box of shells. Ran home mounted a scope and off to the pasture I went. First shot, scope hit my eyebrow, no blood but dang. I thought well I must have been so excited I didn’t have it shouldered correctly since that never happened before..?
Second shot, I think I lost two fillings out of my teeth. Loaded up, right back to the store and swapped gun and 18 remaining shells for a used .270 and box of ammo.
Much more enjoyable!

You guys go first. Please tell us all, the gun you owned, hated and sold off quickly. This should be fun. Plus the young guys get saved from our Mistakes. Cool?? Mine was a way too BIG 12 bore bolt action shotgun for an eleven-year-old, 4 eyed, Fat kid. Mike in ct.
Howdy -

Most in-accurate “ rifle “ I bought was an H & R SB-2 “ Ultra “ in .357Maximum.
Came with an owner’s manual that depicted the gun w/ a “ Monte Carlo “ laminate buttsrock, to go along with/ the matching laminate fore end. But, the gun had a straight buttstock w no pistol grip. The wood grain & finish looked ok.

I protested to H & R ( a couple years before Marlin bought them out ), and sent them the SB-2 which they installed a Monte Carlo buttstock on; and all the wood grains & colors
still matched. Once I got it back, it was time to try and shoot the thing…

No matter what powders & bullets I tried, the gun just would not produce anything one might call a “ group “. Not even @ 50yd….. scoped.

I DK what they were thinking @ the factory, because the “ carbine “ had so much
“ freebore “, that a barely seated .358” cal 200RN would not touch the rifling.
Marginal “ bluing “, stamped steel action unlock lever, plastic trigger guard; and a set of irons’ that looked like they came out of a high school metals shop populated by baboons.

Made a nice box for the carbine, by shortenting up a crate from and M-61 canon barrel.
And….off to the West Coast buyer it went.

Miss the box.

With regards,
357Mag

Rem Nylon 66, a Lakefield bolt repeater .22LR, both were bad enough with feeding that I couldn't live with myself to resell them, both got laid on the edge of a sidewalk and run over with a Jeep a couple of times.
Rem 581, wouldn't feed, even bought 3 new mags for it, didn't help.
Browning BL22 was not to be fed singly in a hurry with cold fingers, tube mag didn't turn my crank as it always ran out of ammo too quick. Nice gun though.
A Ruger 77 tang safety, would not pickup a round after closing bolt over a full mag, cost me a moose, that went away PDQ. Checked a bunch more that did that as well.
Ones I shud have kept;
Couple of Ruger #1's and an 1885 I shud have kept and just rebarreled.
A Varner repro I shud have just modded for a scope mnt.
A 1935 Brazilian Mauser with target and all the hdwe, sling, bayo, parade grade rifle, but, didn't want to shoot it, so, sold it.
Browning A bolt .22, shot really well, sold it to buy a bow.

sure are some interesting comments.WOW

I bet the guy who sold his nylon 66 wishes he still had it.he could buy a really nice rifle on trade now.lol
That's something that will stay in my family till someone gets stupid.to many trapping and canoeing memories there.

Some of y'all's stories reminds me of my bro in law shooting his 300 winmag weatherby off my tailgate.sent a vibration through my entire truck every round he fired.

He was 155lbs soaking wet.he was going bald I told him it knocked his hair off....

He sold it soon after.

My 300 winny is around 13lbs without scope with heavy barrel and a brake.its not bad at all

I tell you though 12 ga 3" turkey loads are pretty brutal shooting off bench patterning for turkey .first round I looked at my stock I thought it buckled/broke...

My 338/06 is barely more than 308 even though it's a stout round.

I don't have any care for much anything else.

If I can't kill it with 308 or 338-06 I'm on wrong continent for this white boy.

My 300 winny is a elr type rig.target rifle

Never regretted buying anything.I just trade up

If you ever get to Montana, I have an 8# TC Encore in 416 Rigby. You can shoot it as much as you want. But I promise you it is punishing! ;)
We can trade out. I'll shoot your 416 Rigby while you shoot my little SW329 with some 300 grain magnum loads. It weighs about 30 ounces fully loaded. ;)

never had one i hated though some i liked better than others. never sold any off quickly
wish i still had all of them ive sold. if i sold them in the past it was only a function of needing the money. Coarse I never had a ruger #3 in 45/70 either

Sold a lot of guns over the years. Usually because they didn't shoot well or they brutalized me but occasionally because something else caught my eye that was an improvement. Regret a few. One I still have is a 3.5 inch 12 gauge autoloader. That thing will knock all the crowns off your teeth when shooting 3.5 inch shells. Shooting 3 inch shells is almost a relief. I still have over 2 boxes of those 1600+ fps 3.5's on the shelf in my shop. I save them for friends that don't believe me. It only takes a couple before they have had their fill. :)

the 505 Gibbs I had rebarreled to my silly 550 Gibbs wildcat. It is a great Elephant killer, but hurts too much to shoot. After three, I came to the conclusion that I no longer hate Elephants that much.
IdJeffP here wanted it a lot more than I did; so it now lives at his house...
