Xp100 what should I do?

I bought an xp100 in 221/fireball put a leupold handgun scope on it and it would seem I don't have the skill to shoot it. When I go out and shoot it is more frustrating than fun.

Should I sell it ?
Strip it and make a rifle ?
Try different stock on it etc?

Really nice gun I just need some opinions thanks

XP-s take some work some times.....

I found on the lighter ones, they responded to a hard hold with the trigger hand, and a firm forward pressure on the rear of the stock with the off hand.

A bipod and an elbow bag under the grip are your friends, try and duplicate your setup exactly each shot, remember where the read grip sits on the bag, remember where the pressure is on each finger and palm on the grip, where the base of your grip hand hist the bag, where your bag squeezing fingers are. They can be tough, kinda fun once you get the hang of them and good for short field varmints. But practice on yours for a while and see if you can get it down and like it before doing anything. In the right stock, trued, rebarreled and a good trigger, they can shoot with any other varmint rifle bur decide if you like it enough before going that route. If you don't like shooting it as a pistol you can always make a nice rifle out of them.

As mentioned, takes some getting use to BUT, hitting steel out past 400 yards with a bolt action pistol is known to put a BIG GRIN on your face and, impress the hell out of anybody watching. 8) 8) It has the built in IMPRESS factor!!
I had issues a while back with my shoulder. Couldn't do the "reach thing" to see with the LER scopes. Decided to build a rifle out of my XP action. 24" Shilen and Rifle Basix trigger. Fixed 36 power scope. Wide forearm laminated stock. DEADLY accurate and way too much fun to shoot.
Best 5 shot group so far is .110".

With a scoped handgun since you do not have a cheek weld to the stock you need to place the cross hairs of the scope onto the target & then center the cross hairs in the ocular lens as per shooting open/aperture sights.

Center grip XP-100's have a tendency to torque/twist in your grip upon firing.

one of the problems is the 221 version usually has a short bbl, which adds to the effect of misalignment,

all above notes are good advice, do not sell it as the early ones are hard to come by, if anything, rebbl to 222 with a 15" bbl and go have a lot of fun, they are very accurate, also HiTech makes a great rear grip stock with a flat forend that you will benefit by using.

Restock it with a Joel Russo flat forearm pistol stock. I prefer to keep the center grip, but thats me. Then rebarrel it with heavy contour and put a brake on it. A braked XP is almost a must to make it a pleasure to shoot.

I will take it out and try it with a bipod and flat bag and see where I end up. I want to like it and I want to shoot it. Just want it to work with me pulling the trigger. This next week I will hit it hard with bipod and bag

Try laying down on your back like us silhouette shooters do and put it beside your leg, we don't need no stinking rests!

Per Tonedaddy's suggestion take a look at what he is talking about - I have shot moa at 200m with an xp-hart bbl 222 this way

Stick a bipod on it and give it a try.
I had much better results with a bipod then I did with a rest. I also found a low profile McMillan rear grip stock more satisfactory then the center grip. Mine was a 7 mm BR and after I learned how to shoot it , 1/2" groups were easy.
P.S. brakes just add to the noise of light recoiling calibers in xp100s ;)

thank you all for your input

first thing is i am going to put a rest under the front and an elbow bag under the grip.
also i may change the scope to a more conventional rifle scope for testing as i have no experience with a pistol scope.
after that all bets are off .

thanks, matthias

If going to a rifle scope make sure to hold on to it fairly tight. My first range trip with mine had my hat and earmuffs go flying.

Let me know if you are still having problems.

well, thank you to all .

i was able to shoot 1/2 inch at 50 and 1.5 inches at 100 with the load i use in my rifle . the xp100 was a blast today. shooting at 100 yards was fun.

i used a v bag for the front and an upside down v bag for the back under the grip. i also installed a leupold fine duplex fixed 8 power scope and the regular eye relief was very comfortable and manageable .

very happy guy , thanks i may need to really get some range time with it now.

Try a Harris bipod on it if you have access to one, they are the way to go with the XPs.

And good luck to you on getting the hang of it, once you do get it figured out they are pretty fun.

Here is how we run XP's with a bi-pod.
