XP-100 questions & advice

Ok fellows, I'm thinking about buying/building an xp-100 pistol. Any advice? Rear grip or center grip? How much trouble is it to convert from center grip to rear grip? How are the triggers on the center grip models? I'll probably use a rifle scope so I'm thinking the rear grip might be the way to go. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I have built a slew of XP-100 pistols in both rear and center grip. My personal pistol is a 15 Lb. rear grip in a Kelbly stock. It uses a Shilen BR trigger, which sets pretty far back in the trigger bow. The centergrip models are shorter and, in my opinion, more difficult to shoot from a rest. Either way they are usually very accurate and a "hoot" to shoot.

I shoot IHMAS (silhouette) and have 3 XP's setup to shoot silhouette 6 BR, 6.5 BR, & 7BR and all all center grips. Check out this site.

IF you go to a rear grip you'll need to replace the trigger seeing a center grip trigger won't work in the rear grip.
The center grip triggers are OK but they are not as good as a aftermarket trigger in a rear grip...

Preacher, is the trigger swap from center to rear just a matter of 2 pins out ,trigger in slot, 2 pins in or is it more complicated? Will a Rem. 700 trigger fit or is it a different trigger?

Alton, the standard Rem 700 style trigger will fit right in with 2 pins. The 700 boltstop will not work. As I mentioned earlier, the 700 trigger will set back towards the rear of the trigger bow.

I own both but the way to go in my book with a rear trigger and use a Jewell BR model trigger. After all you'll be shooting a single shot you don't need a safety, ya can't be safety then leaving the bolt up until your ready to shoot. Here's my BFP "Big Friggen Pistol" it's a switch barrel chambered in 25-284 Win w/ brake for the deer stand and a 22BR for the p-dog towns. One piece of advise pay attention to any advice that Preacher put out, he built my XP-BFP and developed the 25-284 loads. He is the XP pistol Guru.

And yes that group buy on the McMillan XP stock is a great deal, the offer closes the morning of the 18th.

For center grip triggers, a Mike Dewey is the way to go.

Don't they use the same trigger as the 600 Remington?

Lynn, yes, a 600 trigger will work as well. A Jewell or, a Shilen, just works better. IMO.

The Remington 600 trigger has the trigger shoe about a half inch farther forward than does a 700 Remington.The triggers are interchangeble but with a 700 trigger the shoe will be very close to the back of the trigger guard.
If the gun is a new build you can tell this to your gunsmith and he can bed the action 1/2 inch further forward and all is well.
If your using a used stock or one that has already been bedded the shoe will be way back in the trigger guard.

For center grip triggers, a Mike Dewey is the way to go.

Dewey is a heck of a nice guy too, I used to shoot IHMSA with him.
