XP-100 or Striker Pistol 223/90grainer Setup for PD's/Comp.

Thinking about building one for LR prairie dogs and a LR handgun match we have every year with steel targets out to 1000ish. Any comments? I love the low-recoil factor this setup should net me.

Sounds interesting Steve, how fast of a twist are you thinking?
Have you thought about the 22Nosler,same bolt face......
Matt

Matt, I don't want to go up to a bigger case. I think the 223 has just the right capacity I want. Thanks for the suggestion though. Probably 7ish twist. Any ideas? May try some of the 90's out of my Striker 22-250 8T just to see if any of them spin-stabilize.

Steve, I kind of thought about trying a 16" 1-7 on the AR as a cheap experiment shooting the big heavies. If it didn't work out I wouldn't be out much compared to a barrel on a bolt pistol. What twist was Ray P using? Sorry to have missed seeing you this year.

Jon

Well Steve I love my Varmint Special XP in 223 and it really amazes me how well and fast it pushes the 53 VMax,I hardly loose any velocity to a rifle with that combo. My thought on the Nosler case was a bit more speed might help with the big 90.Looks like Nosler has got another clambering for a 20Nosler which is .090"longer with the same body diameter, which should safely allow the use of another grain of powder.Your idea of testing with the
mighty 22-250 is a good one, thinking a 7 will be needed,at least.I like Jons idea of testing in an AR,most of them are 7s already with similar length barrels, throating would need to be addressed though.I really missed my SP friends this year.
Matt

Steve,I realize the 90 is the epitome for 22 calibers but what is your experience with the 75 and 80 VMax in a 223,velocity and accuracy wise from the XP?
Matt

Hey guys--missed you guys up there--it was really fun--especially the PD shooting for me. You know Matt, I may consider that Nosler case now that I think about it a bit more. I already have a 225 Win Savage Tgt. actioned handgun, but I may have trouble locating brass for it. I'll have to rethink it some more. We'll see. Thinking about something that'd compete better with the guys who are shooting 6mm's and 6.5's at the match there. Be interesting to also see how well the 90's would do on prairie dogs way out there. Love the BC's they claim with them. Have used the polymer-tipped biggies now out of my AR and love them for sniping coyotes. Am also using the 80 A-Max out of the 22-250 Sav. Striker and it did better than I thought it would this year at the match, but the BC of the 90's is so much higher that if I can get them to shoot they oughtta' really rule way out there...?

Steve, I am also kinda sorta on the fence, 223 AI or the 22 Nosler. Go big or go home, lol.
I have an XP project that needs to get finished up.
One can not do so much with a smaller case. But you can usually load down.
I am still leaning towards the Nosler myself. A bit more study

I have one rear grip XP in 20VT that is a terrific specialty pistol. I always start out with it first. As the morning moves along and the wind comes up, I switch over to my 223. I've been using 68 gr bullets and have used some 75 gr as well. The 75's do better in the wind. They don't give you the explosive results that light bullets do, but you can still hit them when the lighter bullets can't buck the wind. Both of mine are on Remington actions.

Use a rifle scope and Holland Radial brake and you're good to go.

One last thing, if you haven't already, go to the Specialty Pistol forums. Lots of information there for guys like us.
