Wrong Cartridge: 7x57 vs. 7mm Rem Mag

Earlier this year I was at the local range and a guy had new rifle on the bench with smaller scope that had nearly the same size front and rear objective bells and it was mounted backwards. I didn’t say a word a kept walking. Sometimes it’s just not worth getting involved if it’s something not safety related.

Alright here's my story

A year or so ago I was in a local sporting goods store and overheard a couple talking. They were in the ammunition isle.
"Honey, what kind of gun do we have?"
"I'm not sure. I think the man said it is a 300"
"This box of bullets (yes, she said bullets) has 300 on it. Is this what we need?"
"I don't know for sure. These boxes have 300 on them too"
"Which ones will work in our gun?"

This went on for maybe ten minutes. Then I I hear

"Hey I just remembered our gun is a Winchester"

And they grabbed a box of Winchester ammo in 300 Savage.
