Would this work as a good way for load developement

I’d load the list above plus 2 loads 15% higher and lower of each powder and shoot all 15 of them on one aiming black (3,6 and 9) o’clock. Then you’d see some trends. One group means nothing. Even for powder selection.

With the low pressures and fills you mag also have room to look at the next node up at lower barrel time.

Otherwise my limited experience has only been with three powders. Varget was ok, RL15 better, and CFE 223 best by far for me. Besides these I know some like H4895. Real world experience is most important now that you have these starting points.

Thanks Charlie and RW. Didn't want to go to the next node without working up to it. This lower node won't require that. Gun has already shot higher than the next node, but that is near maximum.

I've shot out one 223 barrel, and have two others, one with a CBI match barrel. All really like the 53 grain V-Max which has a really good B.C. and IMR 3031 at near max loads doing about 3250 fps. 4 inch clays at 500 yds are no challenge at all with this combination. H335 and magnum primers are also great, and for heavier bullets, I shoot the 69 gr SMK, TMK, Lapua Scenar with a full case of Varget to very good results.

The 223 will eat just about anything you put down the tube once you refine it, but these loads worked very reliably for me.

only thing ive learned for certain in 50yrs of reloading is if a barrel dsnt like a particular boolit there is nothing you can do to fix it!!!!
besides that any combo mite be the best

I have access to 7-8 different powders to use for a .223. Would selecting a safe mid range velocity of say 2875 fps using a 50 grn. bullet of my choosing, letting Quickload pick the powders and load weights for the 7 powders, based on vel. and pressure then shooting 5 shots of each powder load .

Would the results be a good indication as to what my gun likes. Is this a viable short cut if you may to narrowing down an accurate load by using say 35 shots, as opposed to using 35 shots based on each powder (245). 100 yds 7 targets best group wins, then fine tune from there. Any one have luck with this?
Check out for good info.
