Worse than I thought.

A friend and I are looking to shoot a steel match in SD this summer. Usually very windy conditions. Nothing I have is very suitible in either caliber or platform. SO, I was thinking about buying a "throw away" rifle. I have SOME "Cabela's bucks" to throw at this, so I figured on getting a Savage 110 Tac in 6.5 PRC. I don't like Savage's, but they usually shoot great , and for Under 700 bucks!! If it doesn't perform I can sell it or buy another tube for it. I figured what the hell since I never shop at Cabela's anyway.

Well, I started to look for stuff. Everyone knows about the powder/primer/bullet thing, but I am good with all three. Who knew that the PRC was so popular??? Can't find a 110 TAC at Cabela's anywhere, and they don't backorder them. I also looked all over for brass. No joy there, either.

What's this world coming to when a guy can't have a little fun??

Just venting....

How bout getting like a 6.5creedmoor barrel for a gun you already have?
And I am going to get Creedmoor brass where? LOL

If I was going that rout I would go with a 6.5 SAUM. No brass for that either. Plus I would need to do a BOX MAG conversion......another 400 bucks. The Cabelas/Savage deal seemed so simple ....and not cost me a dime, other than the Dies

I'm betting when Tod says platform he's talking bench guns and doesn't have anything he wants to lug around in a steel shoot.

Yep....I do have 2 Rem 700's....a 1990's Sendero semi custom switch BBL in 300 WBY/338 EDGE and A 1990 Varment Synthetic in 6x 47L. I could use either.....but 200 - 300 rounds out of my WBY is a BUNCH, and I ws hoping to cheat the wind a little more with a PRC vs a 6x47L.

I bet NSS in Bismarck has a Remage in a big 6.5 something 06, 284 ?? That could go on your regular bolt face 6x47L gun, I don't know enough about the bolt face on your big .300 to speak to that.

I bought a 6.5 prc for hunting back in September. Im now up to 80 rounds factory, 1lb to reload with and no dies to speak of. Plan on just useing the factory rounds for the hunt if i get drawn for now. As far as the 110 tactical model goes i have one in 6.5 creedmoor and love it. Very accurate. I wish i would have taken a picture of the 3 inch group i shot at 1,025 yards. Target #10 is my normal 3 shot group with this rifle.20190324_083712.jpg

I have creedmore brass I’ll help out with, once fired Hornady from my personal gun. Don’t let that stop you. If you need some Pm Me, happy to help anybody on here I can.

I have some once fired 6.5 Creedmoor brass from my rifle I'll send your way if need be. I'll even anneal it (AMP) if you would like.

Don't shoot any 6.5's, but am thankful that so many members of our brotherhood have stepped up to try and help you put. Just another reason I love this forum.

If I am at the match you are attending you could use my dasher that’s setup for steel matches...Loaded and dope ready to go. Send me a PM if your interested.
