Witt Machine bolt on muzzle brakes?

Have used both the clamp-on and currently have 3 that are threaded. Have never had any problem with any of them. Have other brakes that do not reduce recoil as much as the Witt.

Did you send in barrel measurements when you ordered it? I used blue Loctite on mine on the barrel, not on the screws, tightened it up completely, then took each screw out one at a time and Loctited it. I've never had any problems and the group size maybe got a little better. Did you also level it with the rifle?

Yes, and followed instructions - blue loctite on barrel and 14 in/lbs sequentially torqued up 1/4 turn at a time. There is no play whatsoever, so unsure what you mean by leveling it with the rifle. I'm sure they'll take care of it - pleased with the brake, she's just a cunthair off.

I meant to set your rifle up until the top of the scope is level (usually the top cap is aligned with the reticle) and then lay a level across the top of the brake. They should match. If the brake is twisted slightly, the discharge holes in the top may push the barrel slightly sideways when firing.

Witt bolt on brakes work great! I have one and two of my friends each have one and they have worked flawlessly for over two years. Zero problems! So there ya have it from been there done it!

What did you mean? Are you not a fan also?
Nope. I'm able to easily recognize a brake made by someone who knows nothing about brakes. If people that swear by Witt Machine's abortions ever try a decent brake designed by someone that understands gas flow they'll know the difference instantly. If they learn about what makes a good brake versus a bad brake, they'll also feel really silly.

I will add to the fold that have had no issues with a Witt Brake. Have had one for over 2 years and it has worked just as they say, with no issues, what so ever. Just follow instructions on installation and make sure you have the correct measurements when you order one, from them.

I was able to finally get my money back. I talked to them on the phone, and they could not have cared less. They actually laughed! Said “how far did it go, the record is 70 feet”!!! I was mad, but that really sealed it.

looking at the craftsmanship on their products compared to my mpa, apa, pva brakes, looks like very second rate and the actual design is too.

I thought the actual fit was perfect. But there’s a serious flaw, obviously, look at the pic!! There’s a portion of it as thin as a beer can. My situation could have went a lot worse for me or someone near me.

LESSON LEARNED

Not a pretty picture. It evidently came loose. What caliber rifle was it on? Hopefully that wasn't the 1st shot.
7 saum. Day one it stayed on for 10 shots. Day two shot 3 was its last. you can see what happened here just by looking at the location of the new hole and the design and the deep machine mark where new hole happened. I survived, lesson learned, moving on.

oh, and he said “this isn’t the first time”, he seems to think it’s funny. I did not. Just send it back for a refund or replace. I took the refund. Which took nearly a month and several calls.

buy once, cry once they say. Pay for the threading and do it right.

If you want a brake that will 100% definitely do the best job of cutting recoil then you want one with a baffle face that resembles a Pelton turbine wheel's blades. Examples of these Pelton turbine inspired designs include the Area 419 Hellfire and APA Gen 3 Little Bastard brakes. None of them are a faithful interpretation of the Pelton blade but they're monstrously effective.

JP's Tank and Tactical brakes are also highly effective and have the benefit of 90deg discharge instead of rearward discharge.

Brake selection is 100% about design, not cost, not anecdotes of performance, not how cool they look, not if you think they work. It's about design criteria. Semi-autos need a different kind of brake design than bolt guns which need a different type of brake to a SCSA Steel Challenge race gun.

What I can think of no good reason for in a bolt gun brake is top ports or bottom ports. They serve 100% zero purpose and can actively cause problems like baffle strikes which forces you to open up the bore which makes them less effective as brakes. You also don't want a single port more than you absolutely need. All extra ports do is add mass to the muzzle which can be actively bad and is rarely any good. If people bought things they needed Witt Machine would be out of business and APA and Area 419 would reap the revenue with which they'd come out with more great designs.

Even though I have not had a problem with my Witt Clamp-on brake that is not a good example of customer service on their part. Glad that no one was hurt.

I just put one on my 65x284 and it blew it 50yds across the field, but the barrel is tapered and I didn't torque it tight nuff, so I found it put it back on and it now sits at home on the barrel, I lmao when it flew off it was funny...test fired 5 hot loads and it stayed
