Witt Machine bolt on muzzle brakes?

Any opinions or experience with these out there? What are the downsides if any to a well fitting bolt on break? Thanks

Bullet strikes are the main issue. You cant keep it from moving and if its right it only has .010 clearance on each side of the bullet. Open your calipers and see how precise it has to be

I bought one for my Encore 445 SM barrel and it really tames it. 240 gr bullet @ 2200 fps. Witt runs sales and I paid $65 for mine. You can sign up on their website for newsletters. Been discussion on other sites of clamp on brake affects accuracy. This is a 5 shot group at 100 yds.

I personally will not buy again they may work to reduce recoil, but the Stainless brakes I got form them rusted in there own sealed packaging one clamp on and one threaded, I had them for about a month kept in the house in my very dry reloading room where plain steel has not rusted ever, Sent the first one to rust back to have it replaced at my cost close to 4 weeks before receiving the replacement by then the second one began rusting, was not impressed with the company's response or the resolve of the issue, There statement was it is normal for stainless steel to rust some ????? I thought at least they might coat the replacement one, nope

I put one on my 300 win mag back in April and have put 15-20 rounds through it almost every weekend since getting ready for an elk hunt. It does a good job taming recoil and hasn't come loose. If I had to complain about something it would be that its kind of a pain to clean.

Have one on a 300 RUM for about one year. Shoot weekly never had a problem, get great groups, never came loose, and still looks good. Only problem is getting it off to clean.

The one I had did not reduce recoil like he promised. Less than 10 % in my estimate. He laughed when I complained.

I put one on my savage 212 slug gun. Seems to help , how much I can't tell. But o have not taken it off so there is that.

Since they are custom brakes I wonder if they would open them up some? I have heard of that being done, not sure what effect it had though

I've had a Witt on two Tikkas. If you aren't effected by the noise they're good to go. Although they can leave a rub on the barrel when removed. The Witt took me to a new sonic experience with a 22-250.

They machine them for your barrel contour so you have to provide measurements. I put one on a .308 and it reduced the felt recoil by half. Never came loose but I did use blue Loctite on the bolts as per instructions.View attachment 1134174
Do you think it is as accurate as not having it on or does it even make a difference? How much did the point of impact change ?

I think it helped accuracy. The barrel stays put even with hot 208 grain loads where it used to jump. Plus the recoil is reduced by about half so there is less tendency to flinch. I even use a brake on an AR15, not that there is much recoil but it reduces any barrel climb. The only disadvantage is the noise level to the shooter is increased. I wear a pair of foam plugs and a set of Pro-Ears earmuffs. Most people like shooting with a brake better.

I to like shooting with brakes but most of my rifles are not threaded, thats were these look great

Excessively heavy, excessive number of ports, top ports are unnecessary and often undesirable. It strikes me as a brake designed by someone that doesn't know anything about brakes but had a machine shop.
