Wireless Range Anemometer

Anyone have an ideas or recommendations for a wireless anemometer and base that I could take out to the range? Looking for something that would have a range of 300 yards(have the distance of my range). My idea was to put the anemometer atop my range flag pole and the base at the shooting bench. Just something that I could watch real time to relate wind speed to flag reaction.

Search for remote anemometer, you'll get plenty of options. Might be better to get a weather station too, temp, pressure.

I've used a weather rock mounted in the back yard for years, though.

WeatherFlow makes a station that records wind and direction very accurately. Data is sent via WiFi up to 1000 yards to your cell phone.

It will send a signal to your home WiFi or the WiFi on your smart phone. Here is a link you can research. Don’t be put off by the term home weather station. The thing only weighs about 5 pounds and is very portable. Also look on YouTube. There are several videos of folks using them in a portable fashion for parasailing etc.

Not being real sharp and living way out in sticks, where does the station get the Wi-Fi to send the data to you?

Probably won’t unless you have satellite WiFi and it’s way too far for Bluetooth. If by chance the equipment will interface with a cell device and send data that way, if you have cell service, it will probably work. That’s a question for the equipment manufacturer.

Those things only tell the wind speed where they are. Get some good flags. It's common to have 5 flags set for 100 or 200 yards and they can all be showing something different at the same time.

Thanks fokes, was just thinking about replacing a wind flag say 1/3 of the way to my 600 yd target with it or just setting it by a flag and observing how the flag reacts to certain measurable conditions. At least you could have a known quantity to learn from....

Maybe you missed my original point. If I had an anemometer on the pole that holds my flag I can learn exactly what that wind speed is reflecting on the flag. Just a learning tool. Not looking to know exactly what is happening down the whole range knowing full well it’s all different.

Exactly what I was thinking.

My reply was based on my experience but give it a try...Can't hurt a thing.

I agree - there is no good substitute for multiple good wind flags. However, the unit I recommended gives wind speed and direction directly to your cell phone (in real time) every 2 seconds. It’s a great tool to actually learn to read your wind flags.

$300 for a wireless wind gauge is a bit steep!

Wind flages down range are the best way. Just my two cents . Tommy Mc
