Wipeout and the .17HMR

Do you guys use Wipeout to clean you .17HMR's.

I have an Annie and a VQ that I would like to try it on but don't want to screw anything up...

Thanks,

Chuck

I tried it in a 22lr and it did not seem to do much. I had put 300 rounds or more through it but it was lead or copper plated lead, not jacketed bullets like I think the .17HMR uses. I let it sit a couple hours and the patch looked clean when it came out. I then tried some shooters choice on another patch and it did not show any copper or significant powder fouling.

I would guess on your 17, you might get results more like my 30-06 which shows a fair amount of copper even after 10 rounds or so. I see no way Wipe-out would hurt anything. I do not like the fact that you have to let it sit so long but the lack of effort required is still attractive with Wipe out. It doesn't get much easier than shooting it in, letting it sit, and pushing a patch.

We've used it on the 17 Mach 2 and it's easy, but the issue is really mostly carbon. After a 6-hour soak I saw no blue whatsoever. I dry patched it out, then shifted to another solvent and more brown/grey stuff came out. I'm going to try heavy application of MPro7 gel on a nylon brush.

FWIW, in the 17 Mach 2, accuracy did start to fall off after 5-6 groups. Best accuracy was second or third group through the barrel after cleaning.
