Wipe Out

Never tried Seafoam but it makes sense that any cleaner like that should help. Gumout carb cleaner or an intake manifold cleaner spray should work too since they attack carbon. Don't know what it would to to any finishes so would require a test.

I tried M-Pro 7 and didn't really think it did that well on copper. It does seem to work on carbon. Sometimes I clean with it first before using the Wipe-Out. Avoid contact with any ammonia based products with your brass as it may harden it and make it brittle.

T I have also used spray carb/injector cleaner too and it doesn't work nearly as well as the Seafoam, which is a bit more viscous and contains different additives. I use a couple of dirty powders and nothing else I've tried comes close to Seafoam, but always looking for better.

I have various kinds of bore cleaning products. I like Patch Out used with Accelerator. When I use it I put some accelerator in the bore with a loose patch until it is thoroughly wet, then I add Patch Out the same way. At that point I switch to a nylon brush that I wet with both at the same time, and start slowly cycling it from end to end in the bore, 2-3 seconds each way. At some point (perhaps 20 round trips) I will start to feel a difference, and I will continue for a few strokes past this, and then let it sit for perhaps 2 minutes, patch out the bore, and wipe the chamber dry, wiping down my rods, jag and nylon brush with a paper towel. Once I have the bore and chamber dry, I run one patch of Butch's through and then dry again. This leaves a little in the bore, but not so much that it throws off my first shot. For target work, I will always foul the bore before going to the record target.

I don't like the sticky residue so clean it with Hoppes on a patch, and lightly oil. I've never used the foam, just the liquid. This is a before and after on a barrel I cleaned for a friend. I think this took 3 applications to get all the copper out.View attachment 1015357
The foaming stuff works really well.. On an old Remington I had there would be blue dripping out the barrel.. It also is sticky , so I like you do the hoppies after , then oil...

It also makes cleaning pistol barrels so easy..

Thanks! It's on my shopping list.

I expect the foam is sticky so it will adhere to all sides of the barrel as the foam collapses into liquid form. To remove I use carb spray which is highly volatile, leaving the bore squeaky. Add oil if CM.

I just looked at their website and yes it says "No Ammonia". Sure smells like strong ammonia to me. The bottle I have is 3-4 years old. Don't know if they have changed their formula. The bottle picture on their website is identical to mine.

Unless my recent purchase from Brownell's is really old stock, current production has a slight, but very distinct smell of amonia.

These threads are always interesting.
Looks like a lot of guys that use the product are not big on reading directions......simply amazing.

I like the Wipeout foam to remove copper. FIRST clean powder and carbon, which Seafoam and a brush is very effective; otherwise the Wipeout is less effective. Spray in the foam and soak overnight.
That's my routine but substitute Break-Free foam for Wipeout. I began using Seafoam 6-7 years ago on my rimfire silhouette rifles to keep the possibility of a carbon ring to a minimum.

My brother and I and two friends PD shoot out in SD. Between the 4 of us we take 14 or15 rifles, 11-12000 rounds of ammo, a few bore snakes, and foaming wipe out. I know in just my ar I ran 1200 rounds, foaming it about every 200 or so. It may not be benchrest clean, but for that type of use it is great. By switching out rifles when they warm up, foam it, shoot a different rifle til it warms up, pull a bore snake through the other and keep shooting. In a good town, we never had to stop for more than a few minutes.

I have tried allot of products and allot off ways to clean a barrel from the "let the product do the cleaning" to brush it like you stole it and what works for me is as soon as I finish shooting ill push n patch of kroil down the tube, when I get home ill push 3 loose patches with Boretech C4 down and let it sit till I get to the barrel. Patch that out and brush with C4, patch out and if its clean ill spin a oversize brush with some C4 in the throat to get that stuborn carbon out. Than ill push some wipe out-patch out down the pype and let it sit for 20min and patch it clean/dry. I really like wipe out-patch out but my barrels dont really copper up so the wipe out get the job done without any problems, carbon on the other hand is my killer but with carbon a brush, good boreguid and n quality rod is my friend.
