Wind flags

In 1000 yd benchrest shooting what wind flags are more important to keep a eye on 200 yd or800 yd flags

It all depends on the range you are shooting at and what is around you, hills, trees stuff like that. Also which flags you can easily see while shooting. Me personally the first 100 yards matter the most, if the bullets aren't shot in the same condition in the first 100 yards they won't hit the same spot.

All the yardages are important, starting at 50 yds for RF and 100 yds for CF. After your gun is tuned, it is mostly about the shooters bench set up and mostly about your wind reading stills....practice practice, practice....

Well, I shoot RF and I set them at the muzzle (+/-2 yards) 15 and 25 marks.

I agree, that was poorly worded. Most of use put out 4-6 flags or indicators RF Benchrest.

The post above said it. This far or near is an old debate. If you run a program in 100yd increments and plot a chart then you might see the facts. You must calculate time and deflection to impact but the math is obvious. As far as old school, then listen to the flags that are doing the talking.

Specific to range venue. Each shooting range facility has it's own unique wind patterns.
No truer words spoken about my home range. Walled on both sides. First two flags are pointed straight l to r and the last one is r to l. Amazing that when the sun finally hits the ground, everything points in all directions at the same time sometimes. That's when I point, squeeze and close my eyes.
