Winchester or Remington

Hi guys,I need your help.I need to know which is better gun ACCURACY WISE,VALUE WISE AND WHICH IS BETTER BUILT.a Winchester model 52b 22lr,1950),or a Remington 40x 22lr,newer).please be sincere,I like both of them, but I really think the winchester is a better built gun, however I will reserve judgement as I have not owned either before..............

What a loaded question!!!

Rimfire rifles are individuals and as such it is impossible to say which of your two listed guns is more accurate. The different lives of the barrels since new and their individual likes/dislikes for certain lots of ammo is so varried that I do nto believe that anyone can say for certain.

As to better built, I think the older Winchester Model 52's are the ultimate in the machining art. But I think the Remington has the faster lock time. I cannot remember the hitory involved with the Winchester 52B's, but at some point the guns had an upgrade to a 'speed trigger' as the prior ones had a very 'slow' trigger.

I shoot a very little position 22 rifle competition, but at the ones I do attend I see many more Anschutz's and Walter's than any other non-custom guns. I see a few Remington 37's and some WInchester 52D's and E's. The European guns have triggers so far above the US factory triggers that there is no comparasion in my opinion. I have both Anschutz Super Match and Walther KK 200/300 guns and they shoot far and away better than my Rem 40X rimfire.

Now to answer your question, I would rate Anschutz Super Match and Walter KK guns above either WInchester or Remington. I would then put the Winchester above the Remington based solely on the history/nostalgia and then the Remington.

I have 2 52d's..one scope ..one open sights..both bug hole shooters @ 50m..I shoot in a very competitive club match..a 249 & 10x was 6th place..i would like a better trigger..none made, currently )..send to one of these ' gun guru's ' and get it back in a year..not up for that..with a 40x you can buy a Jewell br trigger & be in business..parts seem to be more available for the 40x..guns that seem to win on a consistent basis at our shoot..walther's..anschultz 54 baised..52 c&d..people have tried 40x's..but i dodn't see them shot

The difference in current asking prices are the difference between night and day. I found a 513T at a local gun show and without much haggling walked away for $275. The rifle is US PROPERTY marked with a bore that looks like it's never had a round through it. The 52s are beyond what a 'left handed shooter' like me wants to spend for a .22. Since .22 target shooters shoot at a relatively slow pace my preference is an 1885 Winchester built by Miroku. Next up would be a Marlin 39A lever gun.

I like the Model 52 very much and use one for M-S. However, from a pure accuracy standpoint, I think I would go wit the 40X. If for no other reason, the availability of a whole bunch of superior triggers is a huge factor. Even when 52's were in common use, trigger choice was limited. So, I like my 52, but would swap it for a 40X in heartbeat. WH
