Winchester 40SW "special ammo"

Midway offers "special" Federal Law Enforcement ammo to the public for the first time!
Yep, you too can get Winchester 40SW FMJ with PURPLE cases. I really want to be the guy who sits in a cubicle and comes up with that federal spec request! "Yup, we can't tell the difference between a hollow point duty round and a solid FMJ practice round, so we painted em purple"! Lord only knows what we paid to get those fancy purple cases for the acronym agency....

Look at it this way...Those purple rounds will match perfectly with the Pink or Purple purse guns some of the fairer gender is so fond of (the wife saw these and had me order some already)...

Very interesting to say the least. There is a story to be told for sure. I can see it as a marketing ploy or also a Gov tactic with some weird law that would prohibit its use in civilian hands. Marketing is very possible.

More likely a very expensive tax payer funded fix to the problem of "trainees" using FMJ practice ammo on the job instead of duty ammo. Classic response to poor training protocol...spend money!

I doubt it was a federal spec, It was problably something that winchester came up with to market to police departments, as a lot of guns are found to have fmj rounds mixed in the mags of duty rounds placed in there by accident.
BTW the reason that ammo is marked LEO use only is that no pittman roberston tax is paid on it.
