Winchester 1917 Enfield value?

While visiting a local gun shop, I saw a very clean 1917. I've wanted one for a while. I've read here that they're nice shooters. They're asking $700. I looked around on Gunbroker and it's "in the spread". I don't know what to look for to tell if it's original and a good buy. Any Enfield guys out there with some advice? Thanks, Josh

I think this was/is Bigedp51 (?) field if you want to PM him. Him, and a few others I have not seen on the site for awhile.

If it's got a good bore in good condition and not sporterized and on original military condition then 700 is a fair price for a shooter grade gun. Most were arsenal rebuilt after ww1 so most are mixmaster parts.
If I didn't have one and wanted one I'd buy it at 7

If it's in good shape as mentioned before, it's an OK price. If you have all matching parts, (All W, R, or E) it's a deal.

There are several really good books with all the marks listed so you know what you are getting.

It seems prices have been on an upswing for un molested original rifles. Maybe because so many had the ears cut off for scope mounting and sporterized

I've got a very nice 1917 Eddystone military that I have about $120 in. Found it badly sporterized in a pawn shop about 30-35 years ago. Cleaned off the cold blue with furniture stripper. Replaced a few metal parts and the stock from Springfield Sporters. You'd never know it had been butchered.

Thinking $700 is a little over max, but then I remember when they were less than $100.00
About $500.
