Win 785 Ball

I have 2 cans of Win 785 Ball powder. Anyone have loads for the following calibers? Not looking for super accurate loads, just something to get rid of it

3006
243
223
35 rem
338 win mag
9mm
357 mag

Pretty much a discontinued powder, looks like. It is most definitely not for 9mm or .357. Was used in large capacity rifle cartridges. Google it and there are a few loads out there, but use with care.

It was the factory powder used for magnum cartridges, particularly 7RM, 300WM, 338WM & 375H&H.
It’s had several names and loads in different manuals, the last being 780 Supreme, it is all the same powder. Winchester release it every decade it appears.
It’s a good powder, I have used it in 25-06, 270, 270Bee, 300’s (all of them) and 375Bee.
Never tried it in my 338’s, RE19 does such an excellent job.
Look up 780 Supreme loads, I’m sure you’ll find a use for it.

Cheers.

I MIGHT have some somewhere. Hodgdon sold some of it as H450, but I think it had issues with lot-to-lot variations so be careful. It should do OK in 243 with heavy bullets and 338 Win Mag and 30-06 with 200 grain billets. Use STARTING. Loads for H450 and work up. Do not use it for reduced loads, particularly in big cases and small bores. Use MAGNUM LR primers only.

I found some Winchester data from 1979.

I have found some Winchester data from 1979. Winchester cautions not to reduce these charges! Likely this is because reduced charges can be unpredictable with this powder. However, prudence would indicate that I’d start at -2grains in 243, -2.5gr in 3006 and -3gr for 338.
I tried this powder years ago and it wasn’t as accurate as 4350 or 4831. YMMV.

Never used 785 but I have and still use H-450. Best powder I have ever used in my 270 Weatherby with 130 & 150 gr bullets, but as was pointed out watch for lot to lot variations. I had one lot of H-450 that was 4grs slower than the previous lot I had been using. In fact I have read that was the reason that Hodgdon stopped distributing it.

Used 785 in my 270 Winchester back in the day, liked it, but at that time my handloading was no where near as sophisticated as today. Try contacting Hodgdon for loading data. Have 3 pounds of Winchester MRP and they sent me data.

I agree with @riflewoman , the H450 data works in 30-06 for your W785.

I tried it a few times but it wasn't my favorite and then it disappeared anyway.

Burn rate charts show it with N170, W785, H450

After a lot of research, as near as I can tell, H-450 and Win 785 were the same powder but different lots and both were dropped about the same time. Another source shows W-785 and Accurate Magpro being the same powder but I cant find any other information. One thing is for sure, at best, they are different lots and data not interchangeable since Magpro data doesn't line up with H-450 data from Hodgdon's #26 manual. I did have good accuracy with both H-450 and Magpro is my 270
