CRPF 300 WSM. Bell and Carlson light stock w/Timney trigger. I've had this rifle for a while, and just don't use it. I have 98 rounds on this gun. I shot 168s and 178s in this rifle. It preferred the 178s with RL16. I shot a mild load at 2890 FPS. Pictures show any "imperfections" in this rifle. Other than a couple wear marks, it's in excellent condition. 2 targets were with RL16 and 178s. Tiny group was CCI magnum primers and other group was with CCI LR primers. The standard primers were far more consistent for me. Comes with 98 1x fired and 2 new Winchester brass. Asking $900 shipped to your FFL.IMG_3275.jpegIMG_3274.jpegIMG_3273.jpegIMG_3272.jpegIMG_3271.jpegIMG_3270.jpeg

Crap. How did I forget to add them to the post. Ha. The magnum primers would hammer a tiny group, then open up to 3/4-1”. The CCI 200s consistently shot 3/8-3/4” groups.IMG_3128.jpegIMG_3103.jpeg

I assume this is a hunting rifle. What 178 did you use for this? Exceptioal accuracy for such a lightweight. Some of the Win actions were very concentric and you got a good barrel.

178 ELD. Timney trigger. Yes, this rifle shoots great for a near stock rifle. I tried Superformance, H4350 and RL16 in this rifle. Superformance shot “ok”, but with good velocity in my other 300WSM. It sucked in this rifle. H4350 had good accuracy, just not a good powder for light bullets. The other 300WSM uses 200 ELD and H4350. RL16 w/standard primers was very consistent for 40-50 shots of delelopment. I really think the WSM cartridges are better with standard primers.

Did you ever use them in cold weather? The 178 ELD did ok on animals?

That gun has never been in the woods. I bought it and components for a “backup” gun for a South Dakota trip that never happened. That load was shot in early MS fall. Temps were 80-85, likely 65-75% humidity and 275’ elevation. I know the ELDX and ELDM have worked well on game from 6mm-30 cal, for me. I still use the last of my 155 AMAX bullets in a 308 as my primary MS whitetail rifle.

My buddy is looking for a elk moose, bear rifle for cold weather mountain hunting . Your's checks many of the boxes but the 178ELDs are not going to enable shots requiring penetration on angling shots and standard primers may not be that good in subzero temperatures. So, another question, have you tried any factory or handloads using bullets designed for penetration on larger game?

Glad you asked. That brings to memory, I shot 1 box of factory Hornady CX 180 gr bullets when I bought the rifle, for “break in”. Add 20 rds to the claimed 98. I believe I have that brass (nickel plated) laying around somewhere. I shot them in the factory stock with factory trigger. They shot 1.25-1.5” groups. After that range trip, I immediately bought a Timney to replace the horrendous factory trigger.

Sounds like he could get moa with some experimenting. You have a good action and barrel or it would not shoot your loads so well. What scope base do you have on it and does it go with the sale?

I used Talley med rings with a 44 mm objective. They are now on another Win 70 rifle. No rings or base will come with the rifle.
