wilson type handloading dies

I bought some .308 target dies for 40XC over ebay. They are not threaded for a press. They are the old style "use it at the bench type". I am not sure how to use them. Are they to be used with a rubber mallet and do you strike the die body or the end of the shell? They are in brand new shape.

I have a set of Wilson dies in 308, they are used with an arbor press. The whole die is compressed in the press, as always full case resizing can be tough with a lack of lube.

They have a simplistic quality with neck sizing and bullet seating at very light pressures. A good arbor press can be found 60 - $200 the boys here may have a used one.

You could use a cheap Chinese press from harbor freight for $20.You can use a mallet, but the Wilson boys call that blasphemy ) they recommend a press as the dies can be damaged by the hammering.

Once your set up, its very portable, take it to the range like the old timers did for years. Shoot the same 10 cases for years.

This is NECK sizing and bullet seating.

I use a wilson seater for my 30BR. Bought a cheap 1/2 ton arbor press from MSC, mounted it on a steel plate, which I clamp to the reloading bench when seating. Die works great. The press is a little heavy, and embarrasingly ugly) to take to a match.... :)
