Will a 22LR ricochet back from hitting a tree at 10 yds distance?

Yes, occasionally.

It's easy to say what a bullet of a given construction, weight, caliber, and velocity will do most of the time. But just occasionally, they'll do anything! The only thing you can be certain they won't do is gain energy after leaving the muzzle.

I have been hit by .22LR bouncing off a tree, and by .45 230 ball bouncing off the same. The parking lot behind my pistol range bears witness that pistol bullets will occasionally bounce off a sand burm, back past the firing line, and into the parking lot.

Never say never, except for conservation of energy.

I was out shooting with my son a couple of weeks ago and we had one come whining back past us after hitting a tree at about 25 yards. Shooing target loads.

It will, had it happen. Not sure how fast it was going on return, and never found out how far it went . It when between my son and me,we just looked at each and walked back in the house . Never got in a position for that to happen again.

It could occur, most of the time wood will allow no ricochet, but there is always the chance of the unknown.
+1 on this statement , anything is possible , some wood is extremely hard.... Here in Texas we have what's called a blackjack post oak I believe and it will kill a chainsaw blade I have even heard of it throwing tiny Sparks when cutting it late in the day... Now that could be sand etc... But it's horrible on the blades... Something like a old dry railroad ties I could see it bouncing off.... Like a soft pine I doubt it but anything is possible....

From your question I would say you're shooting a pistol (10 yards ) so you won't get all the velocity due to the short barrel....

Wasn’t a rimfire, but once shot a .38 spcl at a cinder block around 25 yds away.
The old style round nose lead slug flew straight back and landed between my feet. Only takes once to kill you or maim you for life.

Frozen trees seem to be pretty hard. My son and I got a few the other day, and I'd never seen it before.

NO! NO! NO! on shooting tires. I did that once when I was about 15, whizzed back way to close to my ear for comfort.

A high school friend who was a great shot with anything, told me to "watch me quick draw my 22 (Ruger single six) and hit that nail in that fence post" that was about 20 feet away. Yep. "OUCH". He looked down and the bullet had landed on top of his boot after hitting his knee. Yep, shiny nail head, nice welp just above his kneecap. Yep, young and real dumb with no eye protection or hearing protection on either one of us. Learning is a painful process.

So he quick drawed a single six and hit a nail at 20’? He should have went on to become an exhibition shooter!

ROFL , lol , no don't do that....

I did that with six rounds outta a Ruger single six, from a few feet away. I nearly pooped my pants when I looked for holes in the other side of the rubber and found none. Those bullets were zipping all around me I suppose. God watches over idiots, especially 12 year old idiots.

I has hit in the vest right below my throat by a 40 cal 180 grain that bounced off a bowling pin. It cut a groove in my range papers on my clipboard before it hit me. Stung a bit but the vest obviously stopped it. I always wear my vest to the range now. I figure I am blessed to own a bunch of left overs from my career, I should use em.
