Wildcat ?s

Dusty I have read this post out of curiosity of when the op is going to divulge what the devil he is working on is this some government secret what goes here This is almost as good as the funny papers.
I would love to show as I know you guys would definitely help with y'alls knowledge and experience but I know y'all could also crank this out asap and I want to experience it. When I first showed and talked with my gunsmith about it he thought I was crazy. He doesn't now. And I'm not trying to portray this cartridge is gonna be the next coming or anything.

I was worried about posting that pic in post #67. Was sure y'all would dissect that.

Hey, even if it's been done before - your still doing it. The take away is experience that you will have over other reloaders of your experience. I have a buddy that names all his wildcats, even if they have been done before. 6 - 06 Improved, yep he's got one, doesn't call it that but he's got one. Damned accurate to. The main thing is, the experience of doing it.
If you get a bunch of crap after the big reveal, no one can take that experience from you.

Well it was just a theory at first, put it on paper, worked late nights, waited like forever to get reamer and dies, seeing very good results now. If it turns out with no interest then oh well but I think y'all will like.

Hell if I posted its designation y'all would know too much.

Im as excited as you are- i wish everybody had the chance to see what goes on inside and at least youre humble enough to ask for help. So when is the big reveal?

Well we got to figure out this primer crater issue first.
Then I'm gonna flip it and find out if my figures pan out. But let's not go there yet.

No case that I know of never gets longer with firing. When they are fired it now expands to fill the chamber and that makes it get shorter. It only gets longer after sizing. But you need to know the chamber length to make sure it is not to long to start with. Matt

Matt.....

I'm not joining this discussion but just from me to you, I do a LOT of wildcatting. I often fireform cases using pistol/shottygun powder, 6.5 cases up to 30, 30's up to .338, even 6PPC's can end up longer than the 220R cases.

Not trying to interject nor argue, just saying that some DO get longer

with wildcats

(And to the OP, deadduck357, I'm not trying to hijack, please excuse :) this IS NOT RELEVANT to your situation)

Maybe like the top two but not as bad as the bottom.
No problem. Keep going and bush it later if you feel like it. As long as theyre not blowing out a few in a box you aint that close. When youre on the edge you can pick out the heavy brass by looking at the blanked primers

Uh, it can be. Some of the cases i started with at lesser powder charges did get shorter but as the charges got heavier they did start to get longer. All where the same length to begin. I do appreciate the input.

Ok. Those not close to pearcing? Would a thicker primer help?

What does that last sentence mean? Sorry.

A heavier piece of brass makes more pressure due to less internal area. When youre on the edge -and i mean right on it- when you bust a few primers out of a box of brass that brass will be heavy. The outside dimensions are the same so that means the internals are different. A thicker primer will help as well as maybe just a different brand but if your primers look like the top picture dont even let it concern you

Oh ok, much appreciated. If that does happen then we'll weigh. But if that's still safe to keep progressing that's great news.
