Wildcat Headspace Question

Hello all,

I'm currently in the process of building a 7-300 Win mag and I have some questions about setting headspace on the rifle. I plan on doing all of the smith work myself. I am a machinist, but have no experience doing any sort of chambering.

My question is, what is the best way to set and measure headspace on the rifle? Will I be able to use regular 300 win mag go/nogo gauges since I won't be changing the shoulder angle? Any advice, suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That's what I assumed, but I just wanted to make sure. And I had tentatively planned to headspace off the shoulder. Thanks!

Your headspace gage headspaces off the belt- most belted magnum gages dont even have a shoulder. If you want to headspace off the shoulder youll have to get a gage made when you order your reamer. The reamer mfr will know what you need. Good luck with the project. Let us know how it goes
