Wicked Cold Weather This Week

Was nice here til about 2 days ago, started cooling off again, got above freezing in the afternoons last weekend. This AM I noticed some posts about weather warnings, checked local. Environment Cda said 3F for a high today, except that the current temp at 10;00am was -18F and a -35F windchill. Shows -1F as of 7;00pm. Typical.

When I was a kid my mother would tell us to go outside to play no matter what the temp. was, or how much snow was falling. She was from northern Maine (Van Buren), way up there where school closed to pick potatoes but not for snow or cold, to her up to 6" of snow were flurries.
As a kid I couldn't wait for a snow storm, easy way to make some money shoveling sidewalks around the neighborhood and then hit the local park for sledding, cold never stopped us and schools never closed either.
Collectively we have all raised a couple of generations of wusses (I'm at fault also). I'm sure our parents said and felt the same way as did theirs, and the only ones to blame are ourselves. Time to put the soap box away. For everyone out there be safe this weekend the weather for most of us will be bad.

4:30 am this morning......Minus 16 here in Waterford Pa.

I wonder how close this will come to the storm of 1978 ??

Will have some French toast and sausage this morning then head out
to the garage to see how the 5 zone floor heating system is coping ??
When around freezing, it will keep the building at 45 degrees.

I have to agree with a few posts that in WI this is really kinda just the norm. But it seems the news is really pre programming people to run for cover, buy out the stores. put them in a panic state. Never used to be that way. We just got up and put up with whatever mother nature threw our way. Times are changing for sure.

Just came in from feeding the birds...outside air temp -11 F with barely enough wind to make the wind chill -20. We get a couple weeks straight of this in late Jan or Feb, so it's pretty normal.

Well I am praying for all of you that live in temperature challenged locations, I know most of you have several sources of heat and hope no one loses heat during this bad weather. I was hoping for some colder weather to kill off the invasive critters here in south Florida. Iguanas and pythons could both be pushed back if we had a few days at or below freezing. But NO i just checked and it's 64 degrees at 9:22 this morning. Last week a friend said it was cold enough for one to fall from a tree and die with impact from the driveway at his place. He lives across from a well traveled road and cannot shoot there with a 22LR, and neither of us have a powerful enough air rifle to kill them. Stay warm, use the time to load and prep brass.

I used to do the same. Just get up and deal with it. Now I'm handicapped and dealing with it is a lot harder than it used to be so now I try to prepare a little more before when it's easier to get around. I do believe its fear mongering, run for cover because the younger generation can not last if you don't tell them what to do. No thinking for themselves, no being prepared for anything most of them don't even know where their phone charger are located. It's like my signature says, smart people are being silenced so the stupid people are not offended!!
