Why USPS is in trouble

Overall the mailing service is fine with USPS. Do they loose a package here and there, yes, but have you not lost something in your life also ?
The reason they are going broke is poor management, too many high paid personal and spending money on all these ads and various stamp designs and all.
Just stop the super high wages, and just give us a bottom priced stamp, like the old one's and forget the sponsorships, etc of you name it.

Corona has held up shipping buy one day ???? I ordered 4 wheeler tire from Amazon on the 4th of this month tracking said it will get here 13th thru the 16th. I bought similar tires for the zero turn mower 5 months ago had them in 2 days just like prime says.

A friend has a computer program that shows your mail going through the machines at the post office and what is scheduled for delivery to your house that day. A few years ago, he had the picture of his tax refund check going through and scheduled that day for delivery. It never showed up. About a year after contacting the IRS he finally got his money. I hope they caught the thief.

Same thing a few months later with an Amazon order. A picture of the air compressor scheduled for delivery but no delivery. Amazon had to eat that one.

You can sign up with the USPS and receive an email showing what will be in your box that day...99% of the time I get what I see when I wake up.

Once upon a time I worked for a company selling massive amounts of parts to the US Govt.

All of the major agencies we sold to REFUSED SHIPMENT VIA USPS.

That tells you everything you need to know about the USPS. Kill it with nuclear fire. Salt the earth.

Maybe, but since USPS upgraded their tracking about 8 years ago their deliveries are as good as UPS (or better).

As long as there are humans involved in the equation, it's going to happen. And more often than naught at the most inopportune of times...... like when you're really planning on that 2 day delivery to actually be 2 days.

I tried to beat the system...I could either spend 15 bucks to ship my package to the west coast or drive out there and hand deliver it just like USPS does . I was doing good until I had to drive the 2000 miles home...I think I lost money, should have shipped it with USPS.

You have USPS management potential. Send them your resume.

I've had good luck with mailing and getting packages via USPS or UPS, usually on time. I bought 2K bullets on another forum last week, mailed the USPS MO, seller got it timely, and he shipped the bullets. Tracking # indicated would arrive today 6/8/20, box was sitting on the porch Saturday 6/6. Fed Ex lost a package at a sorting center and Brownells had to replace the order, so that was a week delay just getting Brownells to replace the order. :(

Update, my package is now in Federal Way, Washington. That isn't too far from me and could mean that I will get it today, Monday 6/8. It has been on one heck of a journey.
Sadly, I didn't get to go to the Caribbean, but at least my Machinist Level did.

I'm dealing with a similar issue with the USPS right now. Purchased a bipod here in this forum. Paid around mid to end of May from Missouri. I live in Michigan. It was shipped a day or two after payment. Been two weeks. Still no sign. Tracking last date shows May 31 arrived at the USPS Springfield office. Nothing since. So over a week of no movement. I purchased a stock also here on the forum on June 1st. It arrived on June 5th from Arizona. While I have had a number of very slow deliveries from the USPS, everything I send out seems to get there rapidly. I just scratch it off as " Just my Luck" ! The USPS has without a doubt declined in service. My little USPS office in rural Mi is very good as far as calling or following up but until it gets to that location, I pretty much don't hold my breath.

You may want to go down and talk to them about it. They can often call and find out more info and it is much easier for them to establish a search than us.

Yes the USPS is having some financial issues, but I don't think it is due to the package delivery portions of their product line. Think about it, is there any other delivery service in the country that will deliver an envelope weighing an ounce or less for 55 cents? That 55 cents gets you deliver within CONUS usually in 3-4 days, not bad. The cost for lower class deliveries with commercial rates is much less than that. Another factor may be with the advent and saturation of electronic communications the number of first class letters that get delivered to each mailbox is less and yet USPS still has to stop at the mailbox, so they do much the same work for a lower total delivery fees.

In today's dynamic marketplace if it was profitable to duplicate the USPS delivery of parcels like letters and other printed material don't you think the USPS would have competition for the same? I don't see anu start-ups clamoring to come to your house to deliver a letter for 55 cents.

I read an article some time ago, that if it was not for the revenue from flyers and adds that is sent via the USPS, they would not be able to stay in business. I don't know the reality of this, but it seems plausible.
There are many issues with the USPS, many shared by other services. Mailing a letter for $0.55 is fine, although I rarely do so any more these days. I do use their Flat Rate Packages though. Can't beat the "If it fits, it ships" policy.
That being said, that does not excuse the USPS or any other service for bad service, bad attitudes and bad management. If they can't do their job for what they charge, then they need to charge more. It is unacceptable to pay for a service and not get it and I don't accept that I should roll over and accept this type of service because the price was the lowest.
If I were to have a business here and promise the members of this forum a service or product and not follow through with it consistently, how long would it take to loose my customers. The difference is that we have few choices and too many of the same issues reside in those other choices. Unfortunately, there isn't much that I, or anyone else can do about it.

I think I've told this here before, but after 3 different pieces of mail with very important payments in them went missing (all certified mail) with no resolution, I swore off USPS and go out of my way to never use them. Each of those 3 times, thankfully, the institutions that were supposed to be receiving those payments were very understanding and worked with me after the USPS did what they do best. Now days, if it's important, it goes FedEx Express and it has never failed to arrive.

Another Classic example, only thing they know is where it was last, its gone, maybe it’s in the Bahamas or the Caribbean, after the third week they refunded my money
