Why not a 7mm BR?

I have a 30" barrel chambered in 7mm-08. It was a lot of fun but got boring.

Looking to re-chamber the barrel into a ????

284 or similar seams like the easy answer. At the same time have been thinking about a 7mm br, simple re-chamber, great barrel life, accuracy to die for etc.

I know it isn't a 6BR or Dasher but I like the idea of doing something different.

Thoughts?

I killed a handful of deer with one back in the day out of an xp100, had a rifle that was fun too. whats not to like . About .30-30 power with better accuracy and downrange ballistics. Plus a gun that only burns 28-30 grs. of powder is a plus these days.

Interesting replies, thanks.

The 7mm BR certainly saw its glory days with pistol shooters and silhouette matches.

Not looking to re-invent the wheel here, just have a little fun with a barrel that I happen to have lying around.

30" minus a re-chamber should be 28" at least.

Underpowered for what? How thick is the paper that you're shooting at terry?

It is good enough to take down 500m 50 lb Steel Ram. I have most of the BR's, 20, 22, 6, 2-6br imp, 7mm, and a 30cal. I have been thing of a 6.5. I have had 2 7BR xp-100. A 7BR rifle sound good to me.

Mark...+1 for the 6.5BR. Great round, very accurate with long range capabilities. If the powder supply would open back up it would be even more fun!!
