Why not a 260?

Would be using a single shot action, no mag.

Is it a custom action? If so I would recommend my favorite cartridge, the 6.5x47 Lapua! But if it's not a custom action then you might want to go with the 260 as you would have to bush the firing pin on a factory action to handle the small primers.

What would I do? I would do what I have done and bush the firing pin and chamber for 6.5x47 Lapua. It burns less powder and has a better case design. Oh and very accurate! ;D

I've been looking at that round as well. What would the benefit be in using it over a 260?

Same speed, less powder, inherently accurate, better case design, and small primer pockets.

Is it really competitive with the 260 velocity wise? I seem to remember reading that it has a smaller case capacity and requires higher pressure to reach 260 speeds. Obviously speed isn't everything but if it were being maxed out to reach 600 that would be an issue.

mattri - search the site (not the forum) for "6.5 shootout", it will take you to an article by zak guilford that compares the 6.5 creedmore, .260 and 6.5x47.

That's the article I was referring to. Doesn't he state that the 6.5x47 needs hotter loads at higher pressure to reach 260 performance?
