Why no American SVD's/PSL's

So always been curious about this.. figured y'all might know ,got a decent many American companies doing AK pattern rifles .. and the comblock weapons community is pretty big....but why no SVD's /PSL's ? I know there not exactly just elongated AK's like most think but don't see how they could be super hard to make ( I say as a guh whose new built an AK :D, )and with their popularity in movies and games, honestly don't see them being too hard of a sale . Heck every time they do one of those custom import deals people seem to be fighting over them so ... Why no American SVD's /PSL's?

Because they suck
they don’t suck. your just ignorant. the origional russian guns work very well for what they were designed for. my zastava m76 is a very reliable designated marksman type rifle that is more accurate that you’d think. the knockoff chinese and romanian stuff tends to be crap but same can be said for knockoff HK s and knockoff FALs or really anything Norinco has had a hand in.

i’ve been looking for PSA to build one of these type rifles for some time. it seems like it would be in their wheel house but i don’t know how well they would sell and i’m sure that’s the problem.

The market for those rifles is quite small. They are also not cheap to make. There were 2 runs of the Dragunov that were made in Hungary. They went for quite a bit more than the original estimated price.
Check out the thread over on the akfiles.

The Dragunov was a very good rifle that was good at what it was designed for. The scope was far ahead of its time when compared to what we were using at that time. The hash marks were just what they should be, and made it easy to remove the entended target.

The one I had back in the late 80's-early 90's would explode cinderblocks at 400+ yards "all day long". I have a simple PSA GF3 AK now that will blow up milk jugs at roughly 400yds when I can do my part. I did change the rear sight to an AR type peep sight and it made it lot easier to shoot at distance for me.

@69mach first off, zastava is not russian, it’s serbian you ignorant.
Secondly, svd or ak is ugly by design and inaccurate by design.
Thirdly, admiration for russian arms is just an aberration. The only quality goods russia exports are prostitutes and vodka.
i never said the m76 was Russian. never said it was chambered in 7.62x54 either but i’m sure you assumed i think that. i brought up the m76 bc it’s in the same family of rifles as the SVDs and PSLs and it’s what i have first hand knowledge of. there is nothing ugly about the svd family of rifles imo. and they are plenty accurate for what they were designed for. not to mention your crapping on a rifle that was designed in the late 1950s.

Yeah eveyone thinks they where supposed to be sniper rifles when they weren't. Their DMRs and whole purpose was to give the squad a longer ranged option. Same thing we did with M14's for a while . Make one able to hit a man sized target out to 500yd and most who want one ( let's be honest mainly people who just wanna LARP around ) would be happy

The dragunov is a novelty item at best in the US. If someone wants to build an american made Citroën DS, that's their right but it's not gonna sell enough to cover the cost.
For what the cost now, because of scarcity, the dragunov is really a waste of money for what one gets, unless they really want it. And it's a few number of people who are going to spend a bunch money on one.
What does it cost to build a new manufacturing process? A lot more than an American company wants to spend starting whst would likely be especially expensive production of a rifle that only a few people want.
It is correct that the dragunov is one of the rifles of all time. However, what is the difference between it and an M1d garand? About the same cartridge, the same 2-3moa capability, same inadequate scope mount.
By building a rifle of middling accuracy, someone could make a small fortune but they better start with a big one first.
