Why is it so hard to find cleaning stuff for a 20 caliber?

None of my local retailers stock anything for a 20 cal. I have ordered online 3 times to get a good cleaning rod and they are so wishy-washy on what youll get. I have yet to receive a combination that will work together, the rods are either too big for the bore, right size but male threaded? What gives? I got a nice set of brushes yesterday but they are a smaller than normal female thread and the package don't state the thread size and pitch? It cant be this hard...

I've had good luck with all the Bore-tech stuff for 20 cal. - They have long enough cleaning rods, and their attachments (5-40) all fit.
I've also heard J.W. Dewey makes good cleaning equipment in 20 cal. (but I have no experience with this brand in 20 cal.)

+1 on Bore-Tech rods and jags.

Pro-shot, Tipton, Hoppe's all have a great selection of 20 caliber rods, patches. Also the tri-angle patches sold work great in the small 17, 20 and .224 calibers. Check out the websites or someone like MidwayUSA, Midsouth shooters or Brownells for anything you need in 20 caliber.

Even with it's popularity, it is still a "niche" caliber when compared to .223 and larger. I have the same problem with my .17 Remingtons. Stuff is out there but has to be found. Tipton, Dewey and Hoppes has supplies for these smaller rounds, just not as large a selection as for the bigger ones.

I have a tipton carbon fiber in 20 cal. I like very well, and for quick cleans, I also have a 20 cal bore snake. I've never had problems finding anything I need, from the retailers that sponsor this site.

Cause it's tiny... :D

Sorry, i couldn't resist!

I know it's not too readily available here in Central Taxylvania either. Usually one of the local shops will have something. Just gotta call or drive around.

Well I got lucky, went to the Cincinnati gun show and a dealer there had everything I needed from Tipton. Got a carbon fiber one piece rod, jags and brushes for $40 bucks. He said that the male threaded rod and female threaded brushes are all 17 stuff but some of the rods are labeled 17-20 and that is the confusion,... all 20 stuff is 5-40 threaded with the rods being female thread.

To answer your title.....No demand, no supply

Well that is good to know Todd is still in business. I started playing around with small calibers again, went there and looked, see a price list stateing current 2016, I just figured it was closed.

I know others have the same thoughts.

BassPro and Cabella stores carry good supplies of 20 cal cleaning stuff, but as one fella said above......low demand, low supply.

Your local shops just cater to "Joe Six Pack". .20 caliber isn't really mainstream, though sometimes it seems so in our internet forums. Specialty online sources are where you will have to look.

If you have Amazon Prime which gives free shipping take a look there. Shipping can kill good deals on cleaning rods because of their length there is an extra charge.
