I wanted to check to see if there is any interest in a 12 caliber Postal Shoot on this site?

With the Saubier website still down I wanted to check on this site to see if there is any interest for a 12 caliber Postal Shoot?
I'd really like to see the 12 calibers kept alive if there is enough interest out there for a friendly competition. It would be the normal honor system with your targets being sent back in for measuring by the designated deadline.

If we can get enough people we will do the normal trophy and prizes for the year. (12 caliber trophy cup, cleaning rods, funnels, brushes, bullets and the likes.

If we struggle to gather enough people are you interested in combining 10 caliber shooters in the competition as well?
If you are a 12 or 10 caliber supplier are you willing to donate to the prize pool?

If your interested please PM me.

How many guys actually have 10s or 12s? I bet its less than 10. Love reading about guys shooting the sub 17cal stuff.

In reality the amount of folks with 10 and 12 caliber rifles hasn’t changed much, which, in itself is a bit sad. (I would love to see it keep growing). The really sad part is the majority of the tiny caliber rifles out there have been sold to private collectors who no longer or VERY rarely ever shoot them. They’re used more as a display than a shooting instrument.

I do like the history of them being kept alive in that form, but I would REALLY like to see the actual use of them kept alive as well.

It’s sad to sit back and see the fine craftsmanship of the tiny bore rifles fade into nonexistence. People today tend to not have the same drive, skill sets, time or determination to complete the tedious and time consuming tasks required to make them. While the technology out there has increased profoundly in so many ways, the ability to craft those skills into fine products seems to have seriously diminished.

I do hope others will keep picking up the torch and moving it forward. It’s kind of the American way. Well it used to be anyway…

As always stay on target,

Carl C.

I'd love to build a 12 or 14 cal and seriously considered it and a had a barrel on order when Pac nor had the fire. Now the price of 14 cal barrels has doubled and the price of reamers and dies is just too ridiculous for something that's a backyard toy on my acreage.

SWD, I think if you ever saw what a 14 caliber rifle will do you would never call it a toy. It's a lot more like a savage little beast! :)

Wollybugger, If I could ever find an air rifle that would hit 5,000 fps I'd probably be able to scratch my itch a whole lot easier and cheaper too. :)

I had to go back into my glass house from throwing rocks to see that its been well over a year and a half since I've shot my 12 caliber as well. I guess I'm the pot calling the kettle black... :-(

Wish you the best of luck on your upcoming shoots,

Carl C.

I would love to build a 12 or 14. But where do you get barrels bullets load data etc. If there was a supplier of these things I would jump all over it.. you find very little info

Ed

LRB was the last to make them to my knowledge. We sold the last of our supply of .12 blanks early in 2025. I believe we still have some .10 blanks in stock.

(Carl correct me if I'm wrong; I don't think Pete made any of the .10/.12; I know Don never did)

Very few shooters for sure. Frankly the .10/.12 offer nothing more than the .14; other than we could do it. The .08 was a failure as no one (my self included) could ever make a blank long enough for rifle shooting. Again, it was for just because we could do it.

I have solid .12's and have the set-up to make lead core .12's. The .10 are all solids, I have never heard of anyone making a lead core .10.

The .14's are a whole different ball game. I cannot tell you how many people have stared at the power of the little critter after laughing when they first saw it. Watch your shot impact through you scope, they become interested. Toss a P.dog 3' to the right and they become instant believers.

They are wonderful little critters and when you drop into the smaller cases you still have plenty of power, low noise signature, and don't have to worry about ricochet or the barn 300yds away.

Once you start it becomes an addiction. All the .17 converts will tell you the same when it comes to that caliber as well. The only thing that really holds it up is marketing.

See what happened to the .300 Whisper?

Ed, we stock blanks in .14. We have a handful of Contender barrels already made in the various .14's and some .12 Contender barrels available as well.

We stock the bullets. Neil Jones makes the die as does CH4D (others as well just not off the top of my head). We have the data books as well.

Ron, it’s getting VERY tough to find barrel manufactures for the 10’s and 12’s for sure. I’ve tried many times to talk Don into making me a few but he still isn’t budging. :) The last gentleman to make me a 12 caliber barrel did it and a 10 caliber barrel as his very first really small bore barrels. He said it was his first and LAST… :) He did an amazing job on them but it’s not any easy task even as a very seasoned barrel maker.

I really hoped that with the advent of EDM deep hole boring someone could start making pilot holes down the blanks to start the bore. It would sure help to have a very straight pilot hole started to work with. I really think it would improve the success rate.

Please let me know when you are going to make a run of the jacketed 12 caliber bullets. I’m in need of more and have been waiting on a set of 12 caliber dies for over 5 years from 4 different die makers. Trying to get die makers to make you a set of small caliber bullet dies is VERY tough these days. Sadly several of the best have passed on here lately. Did you buy your 12 caliber bullet dies from a maker or did you end up with Chappie’s or Franks sets?

We really need to get more suppliers out there if it’s going to stay alive. I’ve bent Richard Corbins ear over more than once trying to get the fire lit back in him for the small stuff. He keeps telling me how I should make them. He’s a wealth of knowledge, know-how and skill. I need a lot more of all of them and a bunch more free time to make it happen on my end that’s for sure.

Thanks for all your help keeping the small calibers alive,

Carl C.
