Why are these primers different?..?

l no longer trust or use Federal primers from Vista Outdoors. Couple years back l acquired 2 sleeves(10,000) Federal Gold Medal Match Large Magnum Pistol Primers, or so l THOUGHT. Opening one of the sleeves l discovered they were RIFLE primers. l spent months trying to get an answer from Federal/Vista customer service. NEVER any response other than ''All agents are busy" or ''We will call you back.'' l cured the problem by giving the primers to a friend.
ps.CCI primers=Vista Outdoors

I like the BR-4's but they're about twice the price of FGGM. I also find FGGM aren't as likely to crater or blank. After getting my bolt head bushed, cratering is no longer a problem but since I don't compete, cost becomes the dominant factor.

Recently used some Federal Gold metal match small rifle primers with a load I knew to be very accurate . I was surprised to find that was not the case with the Federal primers ! The groups were all over the place even though everything else was the same. Going back to CCI BR-4
Thanks for that info. It’s always good to hear what’s happening out there.

I had 1 box in a 1k brick of 205m's that had 5 AR primers in it. I had 3 more 1k bricks of the same lot. No issues. I just chalked it up to shit happens.

Any component change requires a test!!
