Remington 7 1/2 primers

Having a problem with the above small rifle primers. Dump them out of the factory box onto the flipper tray and about 1/4 will have the anvils seperated from the primer cups. Anvils are laying on the tray & the same number will be without the anvils. I've never seen this happen before.

Anybody else having this issue?

And for anyone using the 7 1/2's, you might want to check the condition of the primers before you seat them.

Looked for a lot number on the 1000 carton, cannot find any.

Ouch, thats not good.
Could it possibly be due to the big shortage on conponents we witnessed a 3 or 4 years ago?
Run them factorys at full tilt to catch up on demand and,,,,,,strange things happen. Just a pet theory of mine.

Neither have I and,
No,

This would be a huge issue with me, they would be going back to the source of purchase or directly to Remington ASAP!!

I've closely checked the individual 100 count box's & the larger box that holds the 10, 100 count & the only numbers are the bar code, 0 47700 09540 0.

Have never had this happen with Winchester, CCI or Federal primers. Like their brass, I won't be buying anymore of their primers either.

i have a couple boxes. mine have a number on the 100 pack. it's on the edge (orange side) there hard to read just like the numbers on the cci's. you have to hold it just right.

i have 524, 613 and 617

Mine are 621 and 789. That sure seems like a small number for a lott number. They must make about a billion per lot.

FD, did you find the number? It is presses into the box and not in ink.

I run a lot of 7 1/2's and have never seen this! Great primer for AR's and hard-to-light ball powders, hard cup and high brisance combo. I would definitely contact Remington and would be very surprised if they don't make it right.

Wow - that's really sad to here - that primer use to be the go to primer for bench rest shooting the 222 many years ago. I used it for many years and never had a problem with them.

I would contact Remington and not use any of the reminding primers until you here from them.

I had something happen to me last year that I never experienced in 40 years of reloading. I was shooting one of my 223 varmint rifles at the range and the round to not fire. I immediately thought the rifle was the problem since I've never had a misfire in all the years I've been reloading traced to a defective primer. Long story short, I pulled the bullet and very carefully removed the primer using a face shield for protection. The primer had a bare cup - no priming compound. This was a Federal 205 match primer. I was stunned. I notified Federal but all they did was send me a 10 dollar coupon. This incident did not cause to switch brands but I now check the primers while in the tray to make sure they all have primer compound - would hate to have a misfire on a monster ground hog :)

rocketron: You were absolutely correct! I had to use my Opti-Visor, but did find the lot# embossed ( almost invisable) in the orange edge of the 100 count box's. That lot# is 386.

Now I'm also getting mis-fires, and yes, I was sure that the primers seated had the anvils in place. Pulled the mis-fire apart and, pressed the primer out with a hand punch ( no hitting), anvil was there, but it fell out in my hand. No priming mix under the contact point of the anvil.

20 more of these "primers" in loaded 220 Russian for fire-forming to 22ppc, hope they all fire, will have 420 remaining of the carton of 1000.

I had no problems with the first 500 out of the 1000. I'm done with yet another Remington product, will return to my ever reliable Federals, CCI & Winchesters.

Trying to ship live primers back to Remington would be a real hassle & I will not put the problem in the lap of my gunsmith where I bought them. Not his fault Remington can't make reliable primers.

I have had FTF's on Fed. 205 Gold Match, and regular 205's in the last year or so.......no compound in cup......one of the most frustrating events to happen during a match.......after spending hours of meticulous reloading. Never had FTF on the old red/white box Russian primers. I remember 7-1/2's failing.......but that was before I became anal enough to diagnose FTF problems.....could have been FP issues at that time.
