Why are factory savage rifles accurate?

Savage visually checks every barrel for straightness, and bends it accordingly. Seems like only one guy does all of this .

Exactly right! The first thing I thought of was the factory UBR class in which Savage rules, my mind blocked off good hunting or plinking rifles, I think we all to often "go straight to OUR discipline" and don't consider all the "other" things we use rifles for.
Yes we should impliment that thought! OH that's right, hunting rifles are what factory class uses, not specialty rifles! Most fully factory class rifles, around here anyway are made up of factory hunting rifles, shooting good reloads!

That is varmint and deer guns when not on the range! When you talk about different stocks or different barrels of aftermarket origin your talking factory modified, not factory class.

No doubt the deciding advantage of a factory rifle is the factory model you choose! Yes even an a Axis is at odds against a factory bedded 110 with a good laminated stock, just as it is odds against a Savage LRPV with its massive wieght and HS precision stock.

But factory is factory, the special F Class stock is not legal anywhere I shoot because of its specialized stock with the flat bottom, it is not allowed.

But the fact is even the Sako, Tikka, 40x, the old real Winchesters, Howa, Mauser (Interarms) etc. Fall short 90% of the matches using the same cheap synthetic to laminate and wood stocks, and have for the past 15 or so years.

Yes the better models fair better than the cheaper, but make no mistake those 223 243 6mm Creed even 308s that I see month after month on top of the winners sheet are factory hunting rifles with Savage behind the equipment list,,,, over 90% of the time.

Off track on my posts. To OPs question they are so accurate for many reasons,

First off they are employee owned.

They do produce a quality barrel

They have all new modern top of the line machinery within the recent erra

Their design with a floating bolt head is a huge bennefit on mass produced actions assuring the lockup is good and cartridge to bolt fit is always perfectly square without truing 100% barrel threads and receiver threads faces.

Most models even the cheapest offer better than most factory triggers

Pillar or block bedding and floated barrels.

In general a lot of minor touches that together make a bigger differance when combined.

I am not sure they do that anymore-at least I hope not. I remember seeing that picture from the Savage factory with a worker looking through the barrel while it was in a bending fixture. That picture was taken many years ago. I believe they found out bending induces stress and when heated though firing it wants to return to the pre-straightened shape.

Apologize if posted before

Didn't bother to measure the group size

5 shots from an old 'M' series Salvage

250$ MKII in a Boyd's pro varmint. Shoots CCI standard velocity like this very reliably. One of my favorite rifles. I wore the bolt handle in the first rifle out, sent it to them and they sent me a new one. Shot even better than the first and shoots well with a clean barrel.
Have beaten guys with Rim xs and Vuddoos at a 22 ELR match.
*target is 51y, 10 round groups, these are all right under MOA with CCI std.

Mine will shoot just as tight but only with 1 lot of cci sv I have found.

I just pulled a new Savage B22 lr. out of the box. Going to mount a scope and take it out and run some groups of different ammo. I hope to get to the range over the weekend.

I can’t tell you the number of targets my factory gun has shot me in the 3-5” range. Ive never had this gun out of the stock nor adjusted the trigger. It’s honest to god just a factory savage model 12 LRP in a 6.5 creed right out of the box. minus some stock tape and a mag sled. I truly believe the floating bolt heads are what helps them. You’re starting to see some custom actions going to them.

She’s a hammer! But she’s partially retired now with no scope currently. One more match hopefully to get my 60 point factory plaque, then I’m taking the barrel off and sending her back to savage for new one. All my focus is on my LG and HG!

Not sure but Savage does something right.
Minimal work with my HH 308 gave me these..

Maybe I'm just unlucky. Neither of my Savages would shoot. One couldn't be zeroed because the scope base taps were off-center.

My friend had one. It was better than mine, but still mediocre. His brother had one as well. It was the worst shooting rifle I had ever seen in my life. Another friend had one, which I never shot myself, but he called it junk and sold it a few weeks after he got tired of messing with it.

I'm just yet to see a factory Savage shoot without a lot of work. Tikka, Browning, Remington, Sako, Winchester...they've all seemed to offer more.

I have done quite a bit of sight-in help at our local ranges prior to deer season. A lot of new shooters show up with Savages, mostly Axis's and factory ammo and do very well. Lot of minute of angle groups and happy folks confidently ready for the upcoming hunt.

3 to 5" at what range. What is the round count?

Back when I shot a lot of PRS and similar matches, there would always be 1/4 MOA "all day long" Savages before the match, but never saw one finish near the top. I'm just unimpressed, probably because of Savage shooters hyping up a mediocre rifle.

1100ish now. And 1000. I shoot competitive benchrest. Attached are my 10 match score and groups from the 2022 season. Feel free to look on the GBA website for the shoot off results and you can find some more targets in this range along with some targets that aren’t so much brag worthy. Also take a look the achievements page and you’ll find my attached records that the gun has shot at 600 and 1000. I believe I hold the majority of them. And the others I don’t hold, we’re still shot by LRP’s.
