Why a 6BR or 22BR and not a 22-250

"So let me hear some good, civil reasons why I should chamber my Phoenix in a 22BR or 6BR.
Thanks, Dave T"

the answer is- you haven't owned one "yet"

so your unshure ... you want to

well its been 20 days an no response on your thoughts since most everyone has had or has a 22-250 an there experience says GoAhead an do 6BR or then a 22BR

lets here it DaveT :)

RichG,
Thanks to everyone for all of your responses. I ordered a Phoenix Saturday in 6BR, I choose a 6BR over 22BR because (very tough decision) the 6MM is probably a little more accutate when using in our club matches and shooting varmints. I choose the 6BR over a 22-250 because I decided to have my 22-250 re-barreled at a later time, I will always own a 22-250, it has a special place in my heart.

I know the feeling - back in '75, I went looking for a .220 Swift and couldn't find anything I liked - but I ran across a 40XB heavy barreled Rangemaster in 22-250, in prime condition, with a stainless steel barrel, and a 15x Lyman Super Targetspot for a ridiculously low price - $500.

So I bought it and have since been through 4 re-barrels in 22-250. Two years ago, I found a terrific .220 Swift, and I swore off of the 22-250.
I got the 40-XB rebarreled to 6mm Rem, and packed up the 22-250 Redding Comp seater, comp sizer, body die, etc, and figured I'd sell them at some time in the future.

I felt real good about the decision :))

But, two months ago, I found a beautiful, like new, low round count, Rem 700 Heavy barreled varmint, a VSF, the one with the Tan and spider web HS varmint stock and fluted barrel... in 22-250.

Well, it kinda followed me home as I hung my head in shame like an AA member that had fallen off the wagon.

I unpacked the dies and loaded up my old brass and accepted that I will always have a 22-2500 in the racks, because...

... just because!

I know you love your PPC. Why not a Cooper PPC?
58 V-Max is awesome in a 6 PPC

I have both, I wouldn't want to decide between the two. The 6 BR is better in the wind here in the West, a little better. Using the 55 and 58 Vmax the two are so close the prairie dogs don't know the difference when they come apart.

I just sold an 22-250 AI I had built about 5 years ago and don't think I'll miss it at all. Now I have to sell the 22-250 Rem. Since I got the PPCs (22 and 6mm) and BRs (22 and 6mm) I don't use the 22-250s at all, they're out of here.

My 6 BR is a 1 in 10" twist and the 22 BR is a 1 in 8". The 22 BR even shoots the 40 Vmax into one hole, you can't ask for anymore.

Short story, re: the subject: Stop in at Cabela's & pick up a box of 55gr Sierra Blitzkings thinking they'd do well with the 2015 I haven't been using. Gun is 1-14 lijla, rem action. Check the manuals for a reasonable starting point and load up three round volleys of 28.8, 29.2, 29.6 and 30.0, .005 off the lands, neck sized for .002 neck tension, loaded .002 smaller than chamber neck diameter. Lapua brass, 3rd reloading neck only, Fed 205M primers. Head to the range, wind calm, 82 degrees, low humidity conditions, 100 yds. First group, scattered but less than 3/4", second group, cloverleaf, all touching, third group, a little tighter, fourth group, one holy moly, less than .1. No adverse pressure signs. Going to confirm the 30.0 load with a couple five shot groups but when you can shoot this accurately with practically no heavy lifting it's a no brainer for me choosing this caliber for modest range varmints & paper vs the 22-250s I've had to putz with to get even close to this accuracy.
