Why 14" twist

The reason is pretty straight forward, most factory ammo is either 50gr or 55gr, 14" twist is ample for these bullet weights, even at 222 velocities it works fine.
The move to faster twists has only really come about due to the 223 being able to use heavier, and LONGER, bullets. Now that many companies produce these heavier bullets, it is now common to see different twist barrels offered in the same rifle maker, but if you're not chasing extreme range with your 22, the standard twist, although on the slow side, still works.
Both of my barrels, one standard 22-250, one 22-250AI, are both 1-14" twist barrels, either will stabilise 60gr Partitions and are very accurate, but either a 50gr or 55gr BT is much more accurate.

Cheers.

Actually, some companies such as Cooper have decided on 12" twist for the 22-250. I think the current trend is headed in this direction.

The 14 twist along with 40-45 gr. bullets gave factory ammo over 4000 fps. and we ALL know speed sells. Then there's the battle with 220 Swift fans (who's is faster).....
