Who’s building .220 Swift?

Just like the title says….I’m interested, and looking for builders/clients with some experience (firsthand)…would like to hear some good and bad…thanks

Any competent gunsmith can build a .220 Swift , not any different from other calibers -- EXCEPT, if you are wanting a repeater, you need a slanted magazine box like the one Winchester used on the models 54 and 70. It keeps the cartridge on top in front of the one below it all the way down to the last round. Win. did the same thing for the rimmed .225 in the post 64 model 70. Otherwise , in a standard box, the rim of the Swift (the rim is larger than the case body) can catch behind the cartridge below and won't feed. Remington made the Swift in the 700 for a few years and instructed you to make sure each round was seated to the rear before placing one on top of it. However, the recoil of a couple of rounds moved the lower ones forward and feeding jams occurred. Not many Swift repeaters have been successful other than Winchester mfg. You can look at other calibers that were designed as rimmed repeaters and they are slanted magazines shaped with indentions or bars down each side to keep the rounds in place so that upper rounds are always forward of lower rounds in the magazine. Here's an example, a 1914 Enfield magazine box for the rimmed .303 British: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3260149804...MVSFDR&hash=item4be801d16b:g:uuoAAOSwv-Rl0OSD

Yep…knew it was a bit more complicated than most others…that’s why I’m looking for a builder that has done a few

My gunsmith loves the 220 swift. He has built many of them. I ran into a used 220 swift R700 a week ago. Almost bought it but could not justify. Was a nice rifle and priced right.

I’ve got a Rem700 220 Swift that I never have had feeding issues with, it’s been a good one. Brass is tough to find anymore is the only negative.

I'm a Swift fan. There are modern cases that do it as well but the Swift still gets it done. One caveat is chamber neck dimensions. With the long sloping shoulder of the Swift case, it likes to flow brass to the lower neck area. Give it some extra neck clearance and you'll be ok. The real cure is to do it as an Ackley Improved. ;)

Mind sharing his contact info? Thanks

How about the Wilson Arrow? Same benefit?

.220 swift is a great round.shot lots of foxes and crows with one at long range.never had feeding problems in a 700.just stagger the rounds.

I have a Swift. Hart put a 12 twist on for me and I like it more than the 14 before it. It is my favorite groundhog killer.

Or a Weatherby Rocket chamber.
