Just wondering which rifle will be the better shooter out of the box, and why. Street on the new Ruger is high $300s, and the CZ very close to $400. I realize the CZ gets a big improvement with a simple trigger job.

I had a CZ American and a CZ Varmint and both shot very good. I have the Ruger now and have only had it to the range once but it shot pretty dang good. Really to soon for me to give an honest opinion on your question. I have a heavy barrel Savage that shoots really good too. As far as price on the Ruger, mine was $425, then had to pay tax on that. But, its a nice little rifle to and kinda hard to find. I figure in a few more months they will be more of them on the racks.
Have you done the "simple trigger job" before ? I listened to all that on the internet and bought one . I did many simple trigger jobs on it, ended up with a bowtie on a turd . Of course this is just one opinion,if you are not picky the trigger may be perfect for you . There are many ways to shim the CZ triggers ,youtube has some good videos on the subject. One thing I found is that just lowering the pull weight is not the answer,those triggers need tweaking .Good luck if you go with the CZ .

At that price point it’s probably going to be a crapshoot as to which one shoots better. They are completely different styles, so I would choose the one that I liked the most.
With that said, I’m more than happy with the performance of my CZ 455. The only change I’ve made was a lighter trigger spring. Mine had zero creep from the factory so it didn’t require any shims.

I have four pre-455 CZ rimfires and have found the triggers are a crap shoot. Some are horrible and I have two that I wouldn't touch, no creep and break clean. Another option is to find a varmint model with the single set trigger. I have one in 17HMR and it's not a B&A but it's not bad for a hunting trigger.
Thanks gents. Grabagun had a 455 Varmint for about $370, so it is on the way. Hoping for decent wood and trigger, but not holding my breath. I will probably spend the $15 for the YoDave trigger kit that gets so much attention over at RimfireCentral, where I also posted this question in the CZ forum. I've had CZs before, and look forward to seeing what this next one will do at 100 and 200 yards.

Regardless of what the fanboys on RFI say, I'd save the fifteen bucks and buy a box of premium ammo. Mine went to the round file cabinet in less than ten minutes.

I will take the CZ every time over a Ruger - RAR - 77/22 - ETC, I have tried a few of the Ruger RAR's that belonged to other shooters, while they provided accuracy good enough for hunting, plinking,etc none of them are even close to both of my 452's one problem I see with them is weak ignition and a huge chamber, I have seen claims about the Ruger shooting 1/4" groups @ 50 yards, the ones I tried from the bench were triple that with several mid grade match ammos.

What ammo were you using? The last .22 I bought (an annie), I went through 20 plus different weights, types, brands, speeds of ammo before settling on the one it liked the best.
Best accuracy was Eley with RWS a close second .It disliked Norma and Federal match .My main issue was the trigger and binding bolt .Worked on them and smoothed the bolt out some .trigger had so much creep that I could not safely take it all out...seemed everything was a compromise.
skip all the shims and other crap and get the DIP adjustable sear for the CZ rifle and you can set the creep to whatever you want with an adjusting screw,,then you can put whatever weight spring you want and can have a trigger that is very nice for the price point,,,from my experience ,,I forget exactly but somewhere between 12-15 of the CZ and Brno 22 rifles you can get down to about 7-8 ounces for a rifle that will be shot off a bench and something like a pound for a rifle that would be used for hunting and plinking,,

Try the 20 grain gamepoints, CCIs or Hornadys. They shot the most accurate in my 17HMR CZs.

Was there an accuracy problem? I don't know about the 455s but the previous 452 and 453 rifles when new had some sort of almost impenetrable gunk in the barrels that took quite a bit of effort to remove. It wouldn't shoot out, I know that.
I never really got it dialed in .I was doing most of my testing on really cold days,maybe that was part of it ? It was one of those rifles I could never feel confident with .It would have moments of glory,but not many.Was there an accuracy problem? I have a CZ452 . It was accurate out of the box. Even better with a Timney trigger.

That brown stuff you were getting out of your barrel is the bluing, clean it shoot it, trying to remove it is not needed
