CLR and 10 minutes and the carbon will wipe right off.. I wash or rinse mine with Kroil after.. Finish is the same no change from the naked eyeI have used vinegar only. But this was on a stainless steel compensator for a .22 rimfire pistol.
It took several days ( 3-4 ) to loosen the crud and did attack the finish on the comp.
Just be aware that if this mixes with lead it becomes poisonous lead acetate. Handle with great caution.Half hydrogen peroxide and half vinegar. Works great!
