Who uses CLR to Clean their brake?

Yeah, it worked for me too. Though it didn't work as fast as I expected, and . . . it took the back finish off as well and it now has a natural bare steel look.

In an ultra sonic, it works fast! It does discolor it. Mine are stainless, a quick hit on the wire wheel brings it back.

I use clr for muzzle brake, crown (baked carbon) and carbon ring. Works amazing for me. I found it also cleans brass railings amazingly, removes zinc coating of nuts I gotta weld and cleans rust off metal like magic to boot. Love that stuff.

The Hoovers taught me the clr trick also. Be sure to neutralize it afterwards. They use brake clean. They also don't allow them to sit in clr for more than a couple or 5 minutes I think it was. Too long and it will eventually dull the stainless.

A couple machinist friends that shoot (and shoot well) that work at Penn state applied research lab as machinists did some tests. If I remember right they let a barrel stub sit in clr for 2 weeks I think it was. They cut it open and looked with an optical comparator or a microscope (can't fully remember, going from memory) and saw a change as well. They haven't used it since their experiment. But up until that point the one guy was using it every match to clean his barrel.

Your mileage may vary.

It works great for it, no doubt. I just wouldnt let it sit too long, and make sure to neutralize it afterwards.

I have used vinegar only. But this was on a stainless steel compensator for a .22 rimfire pistol.
It took several days ( 3-4 ) to loosen the crud and did attack the finish on the comp.

CLR and 10 minutes and the carbon will wipe right off.. I wash or rinse mine with Kroil after.. Finish is the same no change from the naked eye
