WHO MAKE's ACCURATE 5.56 BOLT GUNS TODAY?

I Manage a shooting Club of 700 members and have been out of touch with where we can find a
accurate standard weight 5.56 factury box gun.

My Son Runs Marine security and was helping with the 77gr.#262 development. This 200 fps faster
round is the"BEST"round to come around for years with beef up primer base cases and free-bore chambering.
I don't see any Std.Wt. new 5.56 bolt guns at club thru 2011 that are running 1-8 or 1-7 twist.

Regards,Gary

Not sure how much standard weight is. But Savage makes the F/TR rifle in .223 with a 1:7 twist.

Not an off-hand rifle.

I've always heard and read great things about Rock River Arms. Even read an article where a customized RRA AR-15 beat a others using $5000 custom bolt rifle in 600 BR competition. Though they are supposed to be a very accurate black rifle out of the box as well. You can give them a call and they'll set you right up, or you can customize your rifle before ordering on the web site.

here's the web site.

Thanks so much for your suggestions for I agree with you 100% .My 6mm AR-15 Hagar will out shoot myself and most that shoots it at 600 yds(Mag-fd).
Ranchers and farmers in our area should be carring AR15's, border patrols suggest that if forced to off
isulated Ranch roads don't be captured.
The 5.56 is reasonable(1200 Cases) to shoot and considered very effective.

Agreed. I've never actually owned an AR, but keep swearing to myself that I'll get one some day. I want one chambered for the .204 ruger or 20 Tactical for varmint hunting because I already reload for 20 cal rounds.

I also reload for a couple 6.5mm rounds so the 6.5 Grendel appeals to me from a self defense perspective.

My big issue in purchasing one in any caliber is picking up all my brass when shooting or having to worry about an obnoxious brass catcher on the side. The 5.56 NATO round is indeed very effective, but I like to load my own rounds no matter what, and I currently don't load for any 22's since I got rid of my 22 Hornet.

I know I'll still get one some day, just not sure what chambering. Those Les Baer AR's sure are appealing to me with their accuracy guarantee, but I think the RRA will be good enough for me.

If its an AR you are eventually after, I can build one in just about any available AR compatible cartridge and just about any parts configuration that you can come up with. There sure are a lot of combinations with an AR. A tricked out upper can cost in the neighborhood of about $1100+.

Thanks JS for the offer.
Hollinger built my last 2 AR"S on Krieger Barrels, but most of our members are looking for a good
shooting, light weight truck gun like early Sako & Cz's....1x8 twist barrels 5.56 cal.

Tikka has some very fine .223 rifles and offer a 1 in 8 twist but I'm not sure about the whole 5.56 vs 223 chamber thing. A Tikka T3 lite makes an excellent truck gun in my opinion but they also have other configurations from varmint to tactical.

LRPV ,
I guess this subject is two-early-to-tell for I went thru the ACTION Sites with no luck
trying to find a Nato 5.56 bolt action rifle .
I loaded a box of Nato 77 gr for friend to take on Nalgi Hunt last week and I was told that with his
AR 15 5.56 77gr.,he bagged a Bull with one shot thru both lungs under 200 yds that took about 20 steps.
The thing that most impressed me was the small amount of wind drift at 5 & 600yds with heavier
higher BC bullets .
The 55gr.223 at 600yds would be like trying to hit something at 300 yds with 22LR on windy day..
Economy 5.56 is best of all calibers for loaders, second to 223 but with a much better case that can be loaded several times.

JB thanks for input.....QUOTE(The military chamber is slightly looser and that is where the difference stops. They are identical and the military is longer throated to keep pressures down slightly.)
I had a AR 15 upper built to see for myself what NATO was so proud of.
The chamber was a standard Wielde 223/5.56 with .0350 freebore all on exact dementions by the winningest builder I know.
A 20in 1x8 twist S.S Match Kreiger Barrel was instaled with .070 muzzel.
Total cost for complete AR15 ,upper $500. and now I'M getting bolt prices to build a bolt gun at 4 times the cost.
I tried near every powder/bullet combo and found that 500 yard groups will
approch 5 shot .0350 groups on best days/100/200/one ragged hole with 30x locked down target scope.
I MAY RETHINK THE TRUCK BOLT GUN IDEA........

For a truck gun in 5.56 (not .223) with a 9 twist (you want 8 but...), I see that mossberg came out with a new rifle that takes ar15 mags. I don't have one and only read a couple reviews but they were all very positive.
I also see that some folks list the savage axis as a 5.56 chambering?? I'm not sure if it is or not. You could always just get a .223 and have it reamed/throated to the 5.56 or wylde chambering if you need to. I'm not sure what price range you're looking in, but when I hear truck gun, I think cheap and dependable since it will probably be bouncing around in a gun rack or behind the seat its entire life.

VARMENT HUNTER FORUM:"The AR is one of the greatest works of art of our century"!!!
THE VARMENT SHOOTERS ARE CATCHING ON ?

Quote..... it will probably be bouncing around in a gun rack or behind the seat its entire life.
You are right for most will .

An added military max .6 decisimal break/flash hider would be nice and would not require ATF stamp.
