Who is shooting a 22 Creedmoor?

Run the numbers for the 55’s vs the 75’s out to 1K. The drop difference of the 55’s vs 75’s is so minimal out to about 600 that I would call it negligible, from there the 75’s obviously take over. The windage is where the 75’s smack the 55’s all the way out. I have shot more coyotes with the 55 grain ballistic tips than anything but I converted everything over to the 75’s a few years ago.

It is typically the wind that's the issue past 400 yards going from 50s to 80s. Pulling the trigger on a ground hog at 800 yards with a 55 in some wind is annoying to say the least. Night and day with an 80. Yes elevation isn't an issue as my turrets can correct for most ranges. Accuracy is first then comes the BC for wind out past 4-500 yards. We can kill ground hogs out to 400 yards with 40 grainers in some wind but when it gassing past 400 yards gets iffy with the light ones. Much more fun to hit than miss when hitting is easier with a heavy bullet.

The 8 will give you a little more versatility. The 9 will limit you to 75s on the heavy end. The 8 will allow you to shoot the 80s & 90s if you wanted to. Still allowing the 50s thru 75s to shoot very well also.

@ 284 winner,. I've read enough horror stories about, the 1-9's NOT shooting the 75's (ELD-M and VLD's ) "well", for me,.. not to take the chance. Lots of good reports on the 75 Berger VLD's grouping very well and a 1-8.3 twist is needed, per Berger, therefore the 1-8. If I wanted to shoot 85-90's,.. I'd build a 6XC or 6X47.
I only plan on shooting 500-600 yards, max. and 75-80 grains is plenty for me.

I have read this from many credible sources, but I detonated a few 65 game kings in my 1:8 22 Lapua. Maybe it’s just that particular bullet? What 55s would work?

Personally I have not yet tried any 55s. The 53 Vmax works very well. The 52 Amax shoots good too. I have heard the 55 Sierra HPBT shoots extremely well also.

I have one. Primarily running 90gr vld. Have 2 no de es with rl26 running 3106 and 3350fps. Ran some 80gr vld with h4831 at 3150 to get me through hunting season when I first got it and it put the hurt on critters.

Yes indeed. One helluva bullet, and at .22-.250 AI velocities, it just wrecks stuff on the receiving end.

Just built one for myself, using 8tw 6 creed Peterson brass necked down, Redding S die, 88gr elds and RL26. FF yesterday, working a load today. I wanted a hot 22 cal for heavys, for coyotes and general banging steel on occasion. Had a 22-250ai years ago and decided to do a creed so I can feed with less issues out of my Kelbly Atlas tactical action build...more to come

Yea seems like half the coyote hunters In Texas are shooting 22Creedmoors these days. Hoping mine will get me thru this season of coyotes and deer as mine is getting long in the tooth.

I am thinking of doing a 22 Creedmoor barrel. I was just after some help on the freebore for shooting 90 grain Berger's I was also considering Sierra 95 Matchkings and Hornady 88 ELD . I have a 1 in7 Broughton barrel waiting with my gunsmith just unsure on freebore.

From my experience with the 22 Creed I'd recommend a 6.5 twist with the 95 grain Sierra MK's, I have a 7 twist barrel that just won't shoot them but while my barrel is only 16" that's still too close on being stable. Just my 2 cents worth
