22 Creedmoor Velocities

I have two .22 Creedmoor rifles. Both are .218 bore, 4 groove Kreigers. Both are 21 inches and suppressed. I’ve shot several different bullets in them, but the go to bullet is the Lapua 69 grain Scenar. 3550 is easy with RL26 with one finger bolt lift and brass life that will exceed the life of the barrel with 50 pieces of brass (Lapua). I use another powder that has much better availability that you can’t tell the difference from RL 26 in terms of both accuracy and velocity. I’m hesitant to say what it is with the panic buying environment that we find ourselves in for fear that it will disappear like RL 26 has. Sorry, but you gotta do your own testing on that one, but it is available now.

Why mention it all then? What an odd comment.

I figured someone would have something to say about it. The purpose of saying that was to inform those who are wringing their hands about the lack of RL26, to do some research and test other powders. It was a hint. At the same time, I have no interest in propagating the hoarding, and whorehouse pricing that is so prevalent today. I saw RL16 locally last week that was priced at $430 a jug. There was a classified post on this site a couple weeks ago for a jug of RL26 that the guy wanted something like $1000 for. There is a powder out there, that is readily available TODAY, and in generous quantity, that is at least as good as RL 26, and in my testing performs slightly better. The point was not to spoon feed the shooters that are not willing to think and test for themselves. The point was to give someone, who is willing to do the work, a heads up that they can buy a supply of excellent powder for the 22 Creedmoor at a reasonable price. The last thing in the world we need right now, is someone to buy up all of that powder, and start putting it on Gunbroker at twice what they paid for it. You may view my comment as odd, but it had a purpose and was well though out.

So, your plan to combat hoarding is to hoard in your own way.

Sounds legit.

Get off your high horse before you fall off and hurt yourself. I've bought enough to wear out both barrels that I have and no more. If I were trying to hoard it myself, I would have bought 20 eight pounders instead of 2. In addition to that, I sure as heck wouldn't be trying to stimulate other shooters to look around at what powder is available now, in good quantities, then test to find out for themselves. AGAIN, I'm trying to offer my testing results, without making it so obvious that it causes a land rush for a limited supply of powder. Congratulations on being "that guy" who tries to find something wrong with an attempt to guide other shooters to a good thing.

I'm pushing 80gr ELD-M 3650 from a 22-243 Improved with a Krieger 8tw finished at 28 and no issues with them holding together.
I pushed the Berger 80.5 to 3550 in a 22-6mm with a 30" 8tw with excellent accuracy. No blow ups but shooting slow without long strings.

I'll just continue to be "that guy" that shares all information without worrying about whether or not it causes a panic for me.

That sounds like a good plan. I'll watch for your post where you share all of the data, on all of the powders that you have tested in the .22 Creedmoor.

Running a 22 Creedmoor gas gun with a 22" bbl with 80gr ELDms at 3280 by Labradar. Using 39.5gr of H4350, Hornady fls brass and CCI-200 primers. Rifle groups in the low to mid 0.3"s.

I built myself a 22 creed on a Wilson 8 twist barrel and testing with 75bthp(will shoot 75 elds for prairie dogs/target).
I have tried 4451, H4831, 4955, RL26, RL22, N165, N170 and RL19.
4451 shot great, too low of velocities.
4831 got pressure early.
4955 is good until you get to about 3325. 19 is decent.
26 and 165 were unimpressive.
170 needs more in the case, but 43gr was low velocity.
RL22 is the best overall so far. 43gr got me 3353fps with room for more powder.
Want to try RL23.

I love my 22 Creedmoor. I'm shooting Across the Course with mine, and I'm shooting soft loads at 200 and 300 (on calm days) and 90 SMKs at 300 and 600 on less than calm days.

Hornady 75 bthp, Sierra 77 smk's and Berger 75 VLD's shoot 1/3" MOA at 29.5g of H380. This is soft, approx. 2700 fps, which is all that's needed for 200.

Sierra 90 SMK's love N!65 between 37.9 and 39g of powder at 2.630 OAL. My rifle shoots this load into .1 and .2 inch groups. The node is very very sweet and you can shoot a 38g and a 39g load into the same ragged hole. Note, I have had bullets not make it to the target on a warm day at 38.5g of N165, however that was one match out of a dozen that I've used, and it was on electronic targets.....

I've also tried the 90's at 36g of Accurate 4350. Not as good as N165, but about 75 fps faster.

I've run Sierra 95 SMKs with Accurate 4350 at 36gr. and shot 1/3" MOA, however these also didn't make it to the (Electronic) target during one match, so I haven't tried them further.

My final note on the 22 CM is that a clean barrel is worth it's weight in gold. I've only had bullet blow ups on days when I decided to skip cleaning my barrel before the match. On a squeaky clean tube, no problems at all.

I’m getting 3180 out of mine with 95 SMKs and they shoot good.
I’ve been using IMR4451.
It was the first powder I tried and it shot so well I never tried any other. Mainly I didn’t want to burn out a good barrel with a bunch of unneeded testing.
7-5 twist Krigger.

This was my 22 CM with a 28" barrel. Velocities were obtained with a LabRadar. The bullet was the 80 gr. Nosler CC. Having my loading room, (garage) insulated and drywall put up so all my data is in boxes for at least 1 more week.

Now that warm weather is here, and I'm preparing to go prairie dogging, I've been back to loading for it. 42.5gr of RL22 behind a 75eld is north of 3500 in 85° temps.
Accuracy is good. My 19yo daughter was able to keep it in the 10 ring on a 1000 yard F-class target 80% of the time the other night, where the wind was a bit sporty, once I got a handle on the wind(dialing for her).

I have had good luck with 90 gr smk's and 88 gr hornady's with N565, RL23, and H4831 out of a 26" 7-t barrel
