Who is shooting a 22 Creedmoor?

Is anyone here shooting a 22 Creed? What is its primary purpose? What dies are you running? Bullets?

I bought a Nucleus action, and a 260 barrel, but the action was delayed so I picked up a Bergara 6.5CM for use in the meantime, but it ended up shooting so well, I sold my 260 barrel, so now I have an action w/o barrel. Trying to decide which direction I want to go w/ a short action 308 bolt face.

I loaded my first few this way, and then my OCD kicked in and I sent fire formed brass to Whidden for a custom set. Def not the cheapest route, but they are super slick.

Either way will work, but with the 6.5 dies, you may not fully bump the entire shoulder.

I'm trying to get mine done but, it's going to be awhile. I got 22 Creedmoor brass and 6mm Creedmoor brass I necked down to 22. I'm using Redding Type S dies for a 6 Creedmoor. Didn't build it for any specific purpose. Just wanted to see what all the "talk" was about. I be shooting 80 gr. or 80.5 bullets with it. Necking down 6.5 Creedmoor or 6 Creedmoor brass is a no-brainer.

I would but only if we could call it something else

22-250 IMPROVED/ 30° SHOULDER

I'm using Redding 6mm Creed bushing dies for now, Whidden dies should be here soon. If you're planning on shooting long VLD or MK pointed bullets and use the 6mm Creed comp. seating die make sure to order a long VLD seating stem.
Also, Whidden has 22 Creedmoor dies listed as a standard die.

22 Creedmoor shooters aren’t exactly in short supply, but a great deal of them are just coyote hunters like me and won’t be found here.

I will NEVER be caught shooting anything ending in “Creedmoor”, but I do have a 22x47 Lapua which despite what those Kryptek-clad Creedmoor fanboys will tell you is essentially the same thing.

If I were to do it over again, I would still choose the Lapua, because I’ve actually deliberately downloaded it (even in a 22” barrel) because it was FAR too nasty even on coyote with an 80.5 at 3465 fps.

It is by no means a great cartridge for shooting steel on windy days, but the heavier stuff holds up fine for predator killing even in the harshest of conditions.

I use 4 bushings to size down my brass, and trim after the first firing.

A “nearly” perfect coyote rifle.

I'm sticking with, the .22-250 Ackley Imp. 40* using, the 60 grain Bal Tip's loaded to 3,400-3,500 FPS for GS ( fire forming load) and 75 VLD Berg's, 77 Sierra TMK's or 75 ELD- M's at 3,200+ for 500-600 yd. steel/ Targets and an occasional, unlucky coyote that's, way out there, with the "tipped" Bullet.
Several guy's here, like , B23, JLT, 270dude, 284win, 22 dasher, panzer and a couple of others, have pretty much got me talked into, a 1-8 Twist barrel, THANKS Guys ! The 75 Berger has an awesome BC with, at least a 10% increase over the other 68-69-70 gr's and is super accurate from all that, I have read but, a 1-8 tw is NEEDED. I will have my SA, 700 Rem L-H, built around THIS bullet with, a #3 Brux at 25-26 inches, a 1-8 tw and .040- .050 Free Bore. I am surprised that, none of the Factories have made this, Cartridge a "standard" yet ! Probably due to short barrel life, if "abused", LOL ! Calling Brux next week !

I have personally seen the 75 Berger pencil through a few coyotes.

The 80.5 has a very short bearing surface and works great in an 8” twist.

Good luck finding them though.... it can be tough.

I will probably use, the 77 gr TMK's or, 75 gr. ELD-M's, for coyotes, as I've heard the tipped bullets are devastating,.. per the predator master forum.
Thanks for the tip on the 80.5's, but they were not on the shelves at my local GS, I'll probably find them, eventually.
Do they group better than, the 75 VLD's ?

@22DASHER,. did you notice that I changed my mind on Twist ? I'm going with, the 1-8 tw to shoot, the 75 Berger VLD's as the "primary" bullet with, .040 FB
Damn, the barrel "life",.. LOL ! the .22-250 ai with, 75-80's looks like a "Match made in Heaven" for, the Idaho Prairies.

I wouldn’t say they shot any better at point blank range. The best groups the gun has shot hands down have come from the 69 tipped matchking and the 70 gr Nosler RDF.

I’m sure 73/75 ELD would shoot fantastic also I just couldn’t find any at the time so I never tried them.

I've used 75gr BTHP's and 77gr SMK's in my AR's and my .22-250 before. And I could see a custom 250 working even better with those heavier bullets as well.

I will likely go with a straight 1:10 22-250 or go back to a 6mm of sorts in the future. The big 22 match bullets are just too nasty for me, and I don’t even skin coyotes.

The 8 will give you a little more versatility. The 9 will limit you to 75s on the heavy end. The 8 will allow you to shoot the 80s & 90s if you wanted to. Still allowing the 50s thru 75s to shoot very well also.
