where quickload shines is when you need an answer to a question that isn't in the book, any book.
what happens when I seat this cartridge at 2.750" instead of 2.800"? (pressure goes up of course) but is it safe? QL gives you a ballpark answer on the "is it safe?" question. (handy when you are pushing a 308W to within an inch of its life, in the hopes that it will make it to 1000 supersonic)
what happens when you want to burn AA7 in a 460Rowland, and none of the books have data on that cartridge/powder?
what happens to pressures when to solid copper 62g custom bullets are used instead 62g lead core bullets? (longer bearing length) you can create a custom bullet in QL, and get a pressure calc.
what happens when you have a wildcat cartridge that has NO data at all, anywhere, and you need a starting point to come up with suitable propellants?
now, most longtime reloaders can answer all of these questions without a computer, or QL. or hell, even a manual. almost everyone reading this already knows the basic answers. QL just gives you a number that allows you to guess more accurately. :-D it removes *some* of the uncertainty.
all the other stuff, working up accurate loads, ladder tests, etc. is pretty much the same way its always been done. you don't need it by any means, but it is handy as hell at times.

What's so hard about that without Quickload?
I have several loads that take a 175/178 bullet out to almost 1200 yards, supersonic, and don't even flatten a Wolf Primer or show other pressure signs.
Even with Quick Load it wouldn't be the first time someone took a "computer generated" load for granted only to find a bolt that didn't want to open.
