Who is an old dinosore like me and still does not use Quickload!!

I had an older version and it would not load on my new computer, however, that being said, I never used it. My buddy is steadally showing me the error of my ways explaining to me why QL is vital to not wasting time and $$. Up to now, I just work up a load and if it works it works.

How in the world did we get by before computers and infinite programs for all aspects of life? I did a lot of reading, thinking, and testing. I learned the why as well as the how. Now all that people want is the quick answer, how to do it. The thought process is a disappearing art.

Old? Yes, but I wouldn't know what to do without my computers. I start every working day in front of a screen for a minimum of 30-60 minutes. It dramatically eases my work load by allowing me instant access to information that USED to take hours to find. Love em, and no one is too stupid to use one. They have beginning classes to help computer illiterate people get started. I took one years ago, a few years after I declared that I would never have any use for one (computer). I had understood the error of that statement.

I don't see how any computer program can correlate 25 variables. It's difficult to correlate 4 variables to cause and effect. The reloading manuals have good enough data for most cartridges. Websites like this have loads that competitors have found effective. Good reason to stay away from strange wildcats. They are not needed.

I don't like computers..................or people who like computers!

Are your tools made from stone?

And would you let the guy below reload your ammo?

And I know you wouldn't like me, I have three computers in my man cave, one running Windows 7 and two running Linux.

I know what is Linux................. its the "other" sexy and "free" operating system.

You don't understand. The computer program would need to put an accurate number or coeficient on each of the many variables. It would need to be able to adjust or change each coeficient based on what the other 25 variables are. Not sure but I think you have 25 to the 25th. power possible combinations. These combinations all inter react and affect the many other variables. Nobody knows exactly what each variable comtributes to the total result. Just because a computer is fast and can do thouasands of calculations a second doesn't mean it's accurate. It's only as good as you understand each variables contribution and how they change and inter react. How do you account for burn rate changes when 15 other things are changing (case volume, % fill, bullet wt., primer type, bullet diameter, bore dimension, twist rate ect.). Even if you use QL you still have to shoot the rifle to see what works well. What works well in one 6 Dasher may not work in someone elses. I don't need QL to tell me what pressure and velocity I am getting or how accurate my rifle could be.

Diego -

Howdy !

No... I haven't used full-tilt digi programs like " QuickLoad ", or any cartridge design utilities.

I have a copy of Homer Powley's " Powley Papers ", taken from the 1974 " Guns & Ammo Annual ".
I used to have one of his " Powley Computers ", and also had one of Bob Hutton's bullet ogive charts.

These items, along w/ a copy of Ken Water's case capacity tables, stood me in good stead; whenever I felt the urge to wildcat.

When I do plug & chug any numbers in one any of the various online ballistic computation programs, I do so knowing that a lot of them
co-opted off Homer's work.

Like the kid at the quickie mart that can't figure out how to make change without the register telling him how much too give?

I still use my flip phone...none of that social media crap for me. A phone is for making PHONE calls.

And yeah, on the loading thing...I still start low and work up.....without an app!

Over the many years I have collected almost all the reloading books and data that's out there...that's the starting point I need, and I continue from there. Also all powder companies have data of their own. That's just fine by me.

I am so old that in computer class back in 8th grade we had wang computers that we had to punch IBM cards for and it would only add, multiply, subtract, and divide as I recall,The following year calculators started to become cheaper and that was that. I don't have quickload and have survived nicely for 34 years of reloading.
