Who gets your stuff when you're gone?

Taking care of my mothers finances I have found that even before you are gone the VOLTURES start to circle and the hard feelings begin to nurture.
My advice ( and it is worth what you are paying for it) Make sure there are real tears at your funeral and dispose of anything and everything before you are gone, that way no fighting among family members and the only one they are mad at is you.

Well said, and I've seen the vultures circling more than once. When they find out there is a will or Trust,
they can get as mad as they choose at the person who passed away, won't bother them one iota and
speaks loudly about the circlers.

I'm hoping that whoever gets my firearms will enjoy and shoot them as much as I did. I have quite a few guns that I picked up at pawn and gun shops over the years and I wouldn't be surprised if some of them belonged to the dear departed. Guns are like cast iron skillets. Unless they are broken by mishandling they are passed on from one generation to another. Perhaps not from family to family but they continue to be used and enjoyed by someone. Right now I'm thinking of when the day they beam me up (or down?) is on the horizon I plan on inviting the few friends I may have left and let them draw out of a hat for whatever guns I have left.

A few years ago I told my wife I'd be PO'd if I had to make final arrangements for her at the last minute. We now possess prepaid cremations and remains placement. She countered with a plan for the disposition of all my stuff in the basement. Family members would consider it a dump to have to deal with it all. I'm looking for options as well.

Here’s an interesting concept that worked out well. When my grandmother passed away in the early 70’s. Instead of trying to divide her belongings amongst all of her children. They held an auction only for the family. If there was something that you wanted, you had to out bid your siblings. They auctioned everything off to family, then divided the proceeds. My dad was executor, so he did the auctioneering, and my mother was allowed to bid in his place.

ive heard of people around here setting such an auction up in their will. -at first i thought it was a good idea, but the problem is the family members with the most money can buy anything they want and leave the others with nothing they want. i dont think thats the way it should be.

I don't think that you're allowed to sell handloads unless you have an FFL. I wouldn't. I'd suggest turning them over to someone for disposal.

I went to an estate auction a few years ago where they sold bunches of handloads. No FFl involved. It may be a state law thing. the auctioneer will certainly know and advise a person.

Never heard of an ffl being involved in the sale of loaded ammunition

A friend of mine has another friend whose dad passed away. Apparently the dad was a high volume reloader, and the son has no interest in anything guns. He “just wants this stuff gone.” He has been driving car loads of stuff over to my friend's house. Presses, die sets, various other reloading equipment and at this time, 20K primers and my friend has been told there's at least that many more coming.

Wow. Happy for my friend (who is not a reloader by the way, go figure) but I can't help but think I guess the heirs to this man's estate have no clue as to the value of this stuff. I mean the man invested in all of this stuff, they could possibly recover some of that investment and put it towards the grandchildren's' future. In the great scheme of things it wouldn't be a lot, but it would be something. Maybe they figure it's not worth the hassle.

I don't think that anyone is going to get my stuff when I am gone, nor do I think I will saddle my wife with the burden. To be honest, I am getting pretty disgusted with the way things are turning out in this country, especially right now. I am about ready to throw in the towel, sadly. I am considering liquidating.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. Most of us are in the same boat. Heck I got $50k worth of optics. No kids. I got thousands of bullets and brass.

My border collie is on my lap. The German Shepherd is on my feet. New bottle of Pendleton...thank you guys for all the knowledge.

yeah this is what im afraid of. This happens alot I think. I hope i can dispose of it all while im able.
