Who else makes J4 bullets ?

I realize Berger makes nothing but J4, but pricy too

I checked with Nosler, who at one time was making J4 .30cal bullets, but the tech said they use a 955 gild copper.
I checked with Cauterucio Bullets,BC Bullets) and his response was that he uses same bullet type as Sierra MK's.

Soooo, what bullet companies/ custom makers do yall suggest?
I am after a J4 Jacketed bullet to use for matches and hunting applications, a dual purpose bullet like the Berger VLD's.

Any suggestions I would greatly appreciate.
thanks..tim b.

Berger sells J4 jackets to MANY custom bullet makers. If you think Berger bullets are expensive...good luck with the little guy.

hello tbeasley, j4s are jackets and berger makes them. alot of custom bullets are made with j4s. nosler custom competion bullets are made with them. concentric jackets are the hardest part of makeing bullets. i'm sure there are other custom jacket makers on small scale. i think nosler and berger are the two main mass pro.users of the j4s. i've used a lot of the noslers and have found them to be very accurate. hope this helps, treeman

Here is the text from the Shilen site:
"Products::Shilen MicroJacket Bench Rest Bullets

An article appearing in the January, 1996 issue of Precision Shooting Magazine touched off an uproar in the benchrest community. The article announced that for the first tie in history a custom bulletmaker had begun making its own jackets. That bulletmaker, Precision Shooting further reported, is Shilen, and the jackets are called MicroJackets.

Why did this news cause a stir among readers of the International Benchrest Shooters Association's official journal? Ever since bulletmaking began, the difficulty of obtaining good jackets has been recognized as the greatest obstacle to swaging accurate bullets. And without accurate bullets, benchrest competitors become extremely irritable.

Before we began making our own jackets, Shilen, like any other custom bulletmaker, obtained jackets from the usual sources. Problem is, production jackets often exhibit thickness variations of a disastrous .0005" to .0008". In contrast, Shilen MicroJackets are held to .0003" maximum variations, with an average uniformity of .0001" to .0002". Why is this important? Thick and thin areas in a jacket cause bullet imbalance, much like an out-of-balance tire. The bottom line is this: making our own jackets has finally given us total quality control over every aspect of the bulletmaking process.

Are these remarkable bullets jealously reserved for benchrest competition? Absolutely now. Varmint hunters are finding that genuine benchrest bullets are the very best choice for vermin.

When you're ready to see what the world's most precisely made bullets can do for your rifle, give Shilen MicroJacket Bench Rest Bullets a shot.

Does anyone know of shooters using or winning with Shilen bullets?
Just curious because I don't see their name on the winners lists.

You can be certain people such as RG Robinett, BIB'S ), Bart's, Fowler, etc. etc, would not be using the J4 jackets if they were not acceptable.

I don't see that Bergers are any more, pricy) than a lot of bullets are, especially for what you get in the end.....

Unless something has changed, I don't think D-Tacs use J4 jackets. Not that theres anything wrong with that..
