While looking in the safe, ...

While looking in the safe I found two handguns that at this point some people consider to be history as far as owning or shooting. Well since I too am a dinosaur like these guns, I dug out some of the ammo I have for them and went to the range to shoot the cobwebs out of them.
The first one is a simple .44 special bulldog. Everybody knows this caliber died the minute the .44 magnum was born right? Well, the truth is, No it isn't dead. In fact with some of the powders out now it can safely be loaded to ALMOST .41 magnum specs. That is almost .41 magnum, NOT .41 magnum, remember that. And yes it still knocks down heavy steel plates with no problem.

The next one isn't that old but it is said to be dying a slow death because the FBI stopped using it because it "hurt their hands". I happen to own three of them (.40s&w) and yes they do have more recoil than smaller calibers which are now said to be just as powerful as it is.

Well if you live where there are bears that weigh on average 300+ pounds, you might consider something a little larger, than that now just as good caliber. I am an old coot who thought I was superman when I was younger, ... but now I kinda like having 10-15rds. of 180-200gr. ammo with me, "just because".

I have a 40 S&W in a Springfield XD SC and a GP-100 44 special as well.

The FBI initially went to the .40 S&W cause the 10mm REALLY hurt their tender little hands. I bought my first 10mm in the early 80s. When the .40 craze hit the enthusiasm for the 10 kinda went away but it’s back again. Kinda like the versatile thumper 45/70 Govt. It’s here, it’s gone, it’s here again. Like all of the oldies but goodies, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. At 73 I still love my 10s. Never wanted to join the FBI anyway.

Well the FBI gave up on 10mm before they gave up on the 40 S&W so the FBI are not very tough. I am suprised they have not gone to 32 ACP or 32 Magnum or 9x18.

I sure if you shot someone with a 44 Special Bulldog they would not look at you in disgust because it was not a 44 Rem Mag! That is a guess on my part. While I have been shot at I have not been shot. So I amnot speaking from experince. I know that no animal I have ever shot with a 44 Rem Mag has ever complained they have just dropped as if someone tossed an invisible station wagon on them!

I love my Colt Delta Elite 10mm the weight for caliber is good, my Glock .40 is a little snappy on the wrist.

We must understand that the FBI went Politically Correct first of all. Women and Minorities need to be coddled and accorded special treatment, and not held to the same standards as us Male Chauvinist Pigs. That is the situation they ran into in Miami. Killing Power = recoil or a very heavy handgun. PC says you cannot have either.

Been wanting to own a .40 for a while and thought I would get one of the Glock 22 police trade ins.
At the last gun show a kid came up to my table with an sig 229 stainless all stock.
I had a rough rider 22 and an early Taurus 38 special that I had Cerakoted in burnt bronze.
Both had faux pearl grips.
He tells me he loves pearl grips and that he would swap the sig for the two pistols.
I tried not to be too excited but I told him I would do the deal.
I’ve disassembled it, polished the internals and resprung it.
Put it in the blast cabinet with glass beads and brought the finish back to like new.
Added a smooth set of wood grips.
Loaded some.40 stuff using 155 noslers that chronos at 1200fps.
It’s my new shop pistol
